Anybody take the NME lately? I had to take it for school today. I took the 11th and 12th grade version one since I am in 11th. Man was it HARD!!! Each question was worth 6 pts, if you don't answer you get 2 pts. Only 25 questions. I think I only got like a 60 out of 150. What'd you guys get?

Here is one of the questions that I can remember: "What is the product of all positive odd integers up to 10000?"
I can't remember the choices though.

I though it was called the AME, and yes, I took it.

did you get the spider question?

Did you answer
""What is the product of all positive odd integers up to 10000?""
Correctly? I would take half of 10000, since odd numbers make up half of the total. then take a product of (2n+1) with n starting at 0 to 5000? hmmmmm.. wait.. that is too hard...
how about if you .. are you sure its product?
How would you do it guys?

no. It would seem to me to be (8^2)^2 which didn't equal any of the answers given. If you have 8 socks on 8 feet wouldn't that be 64? And then each of those possibilities would have 64 more possibilities when putting the shoes on right? We haven't studied that stuff yet though. I was lucky that I even knew what the (!) exclamtion mark meant.

above post is talking about the spider question btw.

About the other question, almost all the choices had either 5000! in them or 2 to some power. I think one option was just plain 5000!, one option was 10000!/2, one choice was 5000!/2^8 or something like that.

i think I got the "What is the product of all positive odd integers up to 10000?"

what i did was I, in my mind, changed the question to "What is the product of all positive odd integers up to 10?"

so all the answers changed as well - ie. 5000! to 5!, etc. I did this to each answer choice and used to calculator to fighure out the right one.

The product of all positive odd integers up to 10000, huh?

well, for the even numbers, it would be:

(5000x2)x(4999x2)x(4998x2)...(3x2)x(2x2)x(1x2)
=5000! x 2^5000

For all integers, it would be:

10000!

To be left with only the odd ones, you would just do:

10000!
-----------------
5000! x 2^5000

Was that a choice? (It would help if you gave the possible choices.)

Wedesdo, I think I got the third from the last. I forget what it was about.

Z24, I think you're right. It seems that that was one of the choices. I think I even understand how you got it! I am going to try the spider problem now and see if I can get it. (Spider has 8 legs, 8 diff. socks, 8 diff. shoes. Puts socks on before shoes. How many combos?)

The spider one...

Well, there's 8! distinct ways to put the socks on, right?

And for each one of those ways, there is 8! ways to put the shoes on, no?

so, wouldn't it be 8!x8! or (8!)^2

Think about it if it was a person. You can put your socks on 2!=2 ways. For each of those ways, you can put your shoes on 2 ways aswell. That means there are 4 possible combinations--or (2!)^2
