Anyone else still like firing up Far Cry and just walking around?

Love to just wander around the Far Cry environment. So lush and neat. Crysis seems harder to find empty spots!

I find it be very cartoonish actually, but yeah, it's installed and I still mess around with it.

As far as gameplay and action goes, FarCry is still one of the best around. The graphics certainly hold up well, but most folks dont care for the art direction, so it gets quickly labeled as "poor graphics".

I have wanted to replay this game for a while now, but haven't had time for it. From what I remember, the graphics competed well with many modern games if you configured the HDR appropriately and used the content updates.

I find it be very cartoonish actually, but yeah, it's installed and I still mess around with it.

Setting the rendering style option to "cold" changes that a lot.

I just wish it had a way to make the grass draw at much longer distances. Grass "draw-in" ruins the graphical effects.

I just need those guns like they have at the arcades so I could aim at my screen... if I did I would probably never stop playing it.

BTw there is a mod that you can download to have different colour schemes in the game, much like UT3 has vivd, intense ect, and same as GOW ofcourse but in farcry those mod effects ar ea lot more pronounced...if anyone wants a link i can look it up upon request

lol i just replayed the game the other day from the beginning and completed it...finally. It was awsome being able to play @1920x1200 with AAx8 and AFx16 everything maxed compared to medium @1600x1200 back in the day.

And I agree; the game would look SO much better if the detail was drawn into the distance further. I think I may give crysis a shot even though I only have an 8800gt and e2180 @ 3ghz

I've always heard the Matto SP mod campaigns were excellent, but never got around to playing them.

man neither have I...wonder if I still have it. It was a blast to play on Realistic.

Hey maybe Crysis will be as much fun to play in two years when there are systems that can control it...

Yes, the Matto Mods are all extraordinary. There are also many good SP maps that you can load up through the console. Go to farcry-maps.com for all the MP and SP maps that you can handle. I don't run the website, but a huge member of the FC community does.

I think that this is one of those games that will always be installed on my HDD.

I loved playing it on the hardest "Realistic" skill. Sniper rifle bullets are worth thier weight in gold. And a trigen will take like a whole shotgun clip. You evaluate every situation and plan who to kill first and where to hide. Then you get a good sense of satisfaction when you execute your plan just right (after many tries maybe :D). FarCry is so good because you can attack any situation in so many differant ways. You can go around the island sneaking, or you can run into the fight full force. Or find a boat or buggy and skip around a map. The game just has a great open feel.

The non-linear value of farcry is top notch and only outdone by oblivion. I've spent a great many hours just exploring and looking out over the ocean. It's a nice feeling.

Yes I did/do.

My first kill in Crysis was throwing an outboard motor at a guy. Something I could not do in real life but interesting nonetheless. Now if it worked on those blasted helicopters I'd be all set.

I think they should do one of those "stack the barrels" gigs but with helicopters instead. (with full fuel tanks) Bonus points if the cockpits are stuffed with pasta noodles soaked in pig blood.

I personally find it?s better to use "improved" as ?cold? introduces visible shader aliasing.
