$39.99 plan, but I finally caved and got the $5.00 texting plan because of my friends texting me (my outgoing text messages are around 1 a month).

$39.99 + 9.99 second line + fees = $57 for 550 minutes nationwide plan, from AT&T. I wish I wasn't in a contract so I could go prepaid.

Wife has a $40 plan from AT&T and I have the second line for $10. I could go with prepaid for as little as I use it but she needs a plan so this works for us. No texting plan. She might use a few texts a month but always less than the $5/month adding it to our plan would cost.

She has a Blackberry but no data plan - she needed a phone with a good calendar.

You can do a lot better with 40 dollars than what you are getting now.

My cellphone can make calls and send texts, perfect for what I need. My bill is 36 bucks after taxes for unlimited evening and weekend calling, unlimited text and 100 long distance minutes.

Basic Sprint plan is about $60/month + $20/month for a second phone - 30%/month corporate discount. Had the plan since '04, don't see a reason to change.

On SERO here too. Costs me $34.99 incl taxes for 500 mins, unlimited Internet, text, video and pictures. I'm on my second phone after the original one broke. If this one goes, I'll just buy another one. I'm sure in 6 months to 1 year the Palm Pre will be pretty easy to find used.

Except that they won't let you activate a Pre with SERO.

My wife and I used to have a family plan that was $70/month with 700 minutes, no texting or data. Then I got a new job and my company provided a smartphone with a data+text plan, so for the same as what we were paying for our family plan my wife switched to a Blackberry with data and texts.

It's going to be tough to go back to not having a smartphone when I eventually change jobs again... now that I know what I'm missing, it'd suck to not have it.

This is what I have also. My wife and I gave up our cell phones a couple years ago and haven't looked back. Our landline runs around $30/month with the Charter Cable Bundle.

I have ATT's $40 plan, but I pay a few extra bucks to get the earlier nights, since most of my calls take place after 7pm. No land line, no "texting" or iphone or palm pilot phone or any blackberry.

Nopers, I JUST dumped me uber cheap TMobile plan and hoped on an AT&T iphone plan, for me and the SO. I get a decent discount, where I wasn't paying FULL price at least.

I have a $40 AT&T plan +$5 for 200 txt messages and i also get like a 25% discount through work. funny thing is though, my bill still ends up being around $44 after taxes.

Yeah, those taxes are insane. I used my iphone on TMobile a lot, and figured it was time to hop on 3G to do things quicker, and it's been worth the extra money, imo.

Looking back on it now, I wish I would have gotten a different phone or my iphone from somewhere else and NOT have the $30 charge every month. There's wifi everywhere so I don't use it much. It's come in handy on the few times I needed directions but other than that it's pretty worthless. I also really want to drop my 1500 text plan to the 200 one, but all my friends have unlimited text so they just text me like crazy regardless of if I tell them to call me or not.

When I finally get booted off SERO I'll probably go to prepaid with the simplest phone I can find. Yes, having internet available all the time is nice, but I don't need it.

I've also realized how crappy the call quality is on cell phones and I think that when I finally get settled I'll have a landline + prepaid cell which will probably cost as much as the SERO plan.
