I've got my eye on more storage ATM rather than more CPU cycles. my barton is overkill for just about everything. I'll OC it, up the memory, and offload IO to network attached storage if things get too slow. Might have to upgrade the 5900 tho.

i would really love some reviews with a top end socket A setup, just to see whether a new gfx card is worthwhile.

i mean, think about it, if i want to really upgrade this thing i would need new processor, mobo, ram, and video. that is some big $$$. add to that the 20" LCD (or two) and i've got bank problems.

I have a VIA chipset (dunno which) for my 1.4Ghz Thunderbird, so that's probably before nForce 2. It's going to stay until there are fun games that won't work on it anymore, so until then, it's pretty much all old MS-DOS games for me.

I'm not much into upgrading computer hardware anymore. NF7-S with Athlon XP @ 2100 here, no plans to upgrade soon. I do have a laptop with an Athlon 64 3000+ though.

All of my computers are Socket A's. No 64 or others but am planned on building a 64 rig.

Check my rigs in my sig. (Ignore my brother's laptop.)

Of course. Or SiS...the 748 boards are nice for cheapies.
If I were to go socket-754 or 939, I would go with SiS.

I'm going to stick with it until it dies or some game comes out that I need to play that needs more powah.

I don't plan on updating to a next-gen motherboard for at least a year, maybe more. But you can bet that when I do, it'll be AMD, and I'll spend around $150-200 for it, because I want to be advanced enough that I won't have to upgrade for another 3-5 years after.

Fixed to make it apply to me... But yea I feel for you because I recently upgraded as well. I just wish I instead built the same rig 1 year prior...

Then when the dust settles, this fall I'll put myself together a nice 939. There is just too many ifs going on right now. I also want to see how Intel's dual cores pan out.

Um if you overclock to 3.4GHZ, I'm pretty sure that it will kick the NF2 +mobile's ass...

FVCK!

That didn't take very long at all do die. BSOD and wouldn't restart afterwards... opened up and took everything out. 2 hours later diagnosis = dead motherboard. Upon closer inspection, it looks like about 7 capacitors are leaking and look like they're going to blow.

Now... decisions decisions.... another socket A combo? socket 754 and keep my 9800pro? socket 939 and a 6600gt?

booooo!
