Anyone else seriously and wholeheartedly not consider SW Ep1 - Ep3 canon

This is the only thing in my life I am this nerdy about, but FFS Star Wars Ep1 - Ep3 were not canon, nor was the special edition stuff.

I think there's a kernel of truth in them. Vader turns to the dark side, had Luke and Leia, and is shut down my Obi Wan. Pretty much everything else is BS. All the bad cosmic coincidences (Vader builds C3PO), extending character's lives to be of age in Ep1 - Ep3, etc.

I tell people this in RL and they're like, "Ooookayyy sport, it's just a movie." It's not just a movie damnit!

Bonus mindfuck. The stormtroopers were originally supposed to be knights. Explains the outfits!

Ep 1-3 have basically ruined all of StarWars for me now. I used to love the original trilogy when I was a kid, but the prequels were so bad they have tainted the entire franchise and I can't watch the old movies any more.

My favourite StarWars story is probably the first KOTOR game that Bioware made. That one was the true epic space opera that the prequels failed to be.

Well, since episodes 4-6 are incredibly overrated, I see no reason not to consider 1-3 canonical.

I agree. 1-3 are a great set of movies but they screw around with the history.

but they don't fuck it over. yes its silly to have Anakin building C3PO and R2 knowing him. stupid robot should have said something to Luke!

Canon means official or at least the source comes from someone considered an authority in the story. Supposedly this term first came about when Sherlock Holmes was being written.

The term is older than that. It's from the greek κανών (kanon or kanna) which is a measuring stick or standard, which was usually made from a reed.
Which itself might have originated from Hebrew, Arabic or even Assyrian.

The term was applied to which books should or shouldn't be included in the Bible, though the term might have been used in that way even earlier than that.

We also get the English word "cane" from the same root word.

i was scanning the summary of the Mass Effect books the other day, and GL made the same mistake. he couldn't just write a story, he had to somehow connect most of the characters back in history

really? I always figured it would be from what they chose to put in the Bible.

This thread is depressing.

Canon is canon, and it's a fucking series of movies (and books, cartoons, other trite shit that nobody should honestly care about).

Also, people don't know what canon means? lol

Also, George Lucas is a retard. He was always a retard, and will always be a retard. He had a few decent sparks of brilliance, but we can safely say the majority of his work has been conducted by a retard.

This coming from a guy who enjoyed *watching* the Star Wars movies (mainly 4-6, 1-3 was entertaining enough to watch when younger, now they would be simply for the laughs). But all this worship of the story/franchise? It wasn't THAT great. Never was. In fact, even the originals showcased how retarded Lucas had been.

The star war's books are great (again NOT written by lucas because..he is a tard!). they add a lot to the story and history.

Not a SW fan.

But on same vein, I simply do not count Terminator 3 and Salvation as canon.

Meh I don't have an opinion of what's canon/not canon, had too much of that BS arguing with idiots about the C&C storyline.

I will say that EP 1-3 are total fucking garbitch and it makes sense if some people don't consider them canon.

It came from Lucas, it can't be more canon than that. Just because you're a fan it doesn't mean you have a say in what's canon and what's not.

Edit: I wasn't a huge fan of 1-3 either, and I have jokingly said many times to my friends (and even tried to convince my son of the fact, without any success) that there are only three Star Wars movies. But seriously and wholeheartedly? It's GL story, so it's canon.

Agree. They aren't sufficiently thought out to connect to the word "canon."
Episodes 1-3 scream, "Rough draft." A rough draft is there to be edited. There are elements in 1-3 that could be worked into a final draft, but you can't say everything's final because the goddamn thing makes no sense.
