Anyone else running ios 4.0?

While true the bit about multitasking and battery life is hearsay, if it was my responsibility to support their iPhones I'd have probably have sent an email out to my users with iPhones telling them not to update immediately as well. If I'm going to support something I want to have a chance to use it myself before trying to help others. And even though the multitasking is essentially nerf'd it's still a major upgrade that changes that will confuse people and will inevitably have problems.

I love how other software vendors get the "Wait until at least 1 SP is released" while Apple gets a free ride and everyone just says to install things as soon as they're released.

Hmm, guess I should've added that he doesn't support their phones or touches. He's mainly just trying to be "that guy".

Oh.. haha! That's even better. Gotta love the "I'm going to give you advice even though you didn't ask for it.".. although do a lot of people in the office come to him for advice? I know I'll give out advice to people if they are constantly asking me the same type questions.

If I had to support the phones. I'd have a test phone to upgrade first and would be giving out first hand knowledge. I'd also probably take my least complaining users and upgrade their phones for them so I could have a good sampling.

Yes and if they had iTunes on their PCs you would've sent a similar email telling all of the other users not to upgrade on their own until you could do that testing.

You may be even more disappointed when you find out that it's not "true" multitasking in the sense that background apps can actually do stuff. Only certain types of background apps can do stuff - GPS, music, VOIP, NOT chat. Lack of background chat is kind of perplexing, but I assume it has to do with the APIs that developers have to use to do background processing - they have to do things Apple's way, so Apple can decide what resources they get to use. For instance a GPS app can't constantly check your location, it gets your location when Apple thinks you've moved far enough to warrant it, or when you've moved into pre-defined boundaries.

It's all in the interest of battery life.

Actually, we are about to switch from black berrys to iphones and are going to be using this guide. http://manuals.info.apple.com/en_US/Enterprise_Deployment_Guide.pdf

We will have updating turned off and enterprise policies installed. So unless they take it home and sync it to their home itunes (and thusly lose the enterprise apps they need for their job) they will not be able to update their OS until we test it and push it to them.
 
Anybody having problems on a 3GS with internet connections after the update? None of my apps can make any sort of network connection over 3G or EDGE, including Mail, after the update to ios4

If you were jailbroken, make sure you reset the phone to default before the upgrade. A few friends of mine had issues when they tried to upgrade a jailbroken phone without reseting it to default firmware first.

yea i was more expecting something like backgrounder is when my phone was jailbroken. i can live with it. i just want a nice text app to be able to send a text while playing angry birds!

Doh. Any way to solve this issue? How did your friends resolve their issues?
 
They just reset it to default firmware after the upgrade. It fixed it. The downside was syncing all their apps and music back on it.
 
I am now unable to access my podcasts through the ipod on my iphone 3gs, they are still there and if I do a spotlight search I can see them but I can't access from the ipod. Any ideas on how to fix this?
 
iOS4 seems to run fairly smooth on my 3G but time will tell. They tend to slow down after a while between memory wipes.

I'm none to pleased with Apple's new iTunes Store spy policy though. Collecting user use data always makes me nervous because you never know what they're really doing with it.
 
I haven't seen any ads yet, but I probably won't mind them. A little more interaction on the phone would be cool, even moreso if its related to my location.
I'm an information consumer, bring on the ads!

The idea of opting out is that they won't be tracking that information about you to know what to send. But I can see the point of both sides.
 
Eh, I don't care if they track me to deliver me ads. I might actually see something that interests me. Like was said above, I'd rather rather see GoW ads than feminine hygiene ads.

This. I don't really get this obsession most people have with "privacy" (I put that in quotes because we're not really talking about things that are private). It's pretty narcissistic to think any advertisers care about the details of your life; you're just a number to them.

I too will take targeted ads over random ads.
