Actually, it's by JD Salinger.

I thought it was a decent book.

Edit: after rereading your post, maybe you're just comparing it to Vonnegut in general. Personally, I prefer Vonnegut's stuff.

Something about catching bodies. I liked the book, especially when he gets the prostitute and just wants to "talk."

I thought it was an interesting read, gives some perspective into the thought processes of people that are usually just dismissed as "crazy".

how can it be the #2 banned book if we've all, or most of us read it in highschool?

Our class is reading it right now, I decided to skip ahead because i liked it :)

Duh! Of course it's by Salinger. I have no idea why I said Vonnegut. Probably because I read his stuff around the same time (and in translation, too).

Vonnegut is far, far better though. Schlacthof funf, bitte... very good book.

It seemed whiny when I read it as a teenager, too. I thought it was the biggest waste of time. A mental case's weekend in New York. Big whoop.

Lots of cursing and a prostitute.

It's common in English curriculums, which draws attention to it, which gets it banned in some places. This is why a large number of us read it in high school but it still holds a high place on the list. "Of Mice and Men" was 3rd on the list, IIRC, and a lot of us probably read that one too.

Ya, I had to read it for Lit Focus 40S. But I just read sparknotes. Sounded like an interesting book tho. Just would rather read Stephen Hawking or various other physics books.

I didn't even read the sparknotes for it. I think I wrote a paper on it though. I got an A in the class, so I guess the paper couldn't have been all that bad.

It's short enough that you don't need to read sparknotes ...

Then again, I'm guilty of looking up the summar to Metamorphosis, and thats even shorter so .. haha

Thought Catcher was a pretty good book. There was some controversy at our school when one of the teachers was talking about how cuss words lose their bite after you hear it so many times, and told his students to go to their basements and just repeat "fvck" over and over to themselves. One of the kids (I don't even know why you would take this seriously) objected, wrote about it, raised hell, got radio and local media involved -_-

if you haven't read the book, you missed out on a great, amusing, entertaining, coming-of-age book.

one of the best book's i've read. some people say yah, it's some dude who's complaining about everything, but hey you get those kinds of people everyday. I just found it very amusing on how a pessimistic guy views the world. hehhe.
