Our 'pared down' dinner has become 12, with vegans, vegetarians, gluten free, etc. Gonna be a shit show of a cleanup but at least we've got two kitchens and we're cooking in stages.

Yeah, sucked getting him up there. 635 miles 1 way. Lost 2 days of my life.

Chemistry grad school. Smart like his Ma. His prof.... https://thekuolab.weebly.com/
IDK. You got 2days to spend with your son before 3M recruits him an he winds up in St Paul - or oversees somewhere. Sucks being a one man company - nobody to pawn off Friday work on.

As for us, not much. Family dinners on both sides blew up. We'll spend some extra time with both our mom's; neither of which want to come over. "We don’t want to be a bother or some BS". Next year I’m drugging both of them and duct taping them to chairs.

The Mrs and I are probably going to pick up a small rotisserie and some fixings. Too late to get a table at a good restaurant. Boo hoo.

Just me this year. I bought stuff yesterday. Potato skins, jalapeno poppers, cheese, pepperoni, and crackers for appetizers. Then I'm going to make a small ham, scalloped potatoes, and green beans for dinner. I also bought an apple pie. I used to bake a lot, but I'm just too lazy these days and still getting over being sick from last week.

Turkey sucks. Once a year enough to get my turkey fix for the next 365 days. The tradition probably makes it tastes better. Otherwise, I'd rather have just about anything else..

Yeah I'm not the biggest turkey fan either. This year we decided to try smoked turkey using a Food and Wine recipe as a guide so maybe that will be better.

I started the smoker about 10 minutes ago because it's going to take forever to smoke a 21 pound(9.5 kg) bird. I'm using cherry wood for a lighter smoke flavor because I read turkey can really soak in the smoke flavor.

I made the Charleston drive for a vacation, not quite the same but it sure is long. I guess we can be glad you guys get to see each other still.

I'll be making two sets of pie dough today, one for my apple pie tomorrow and another for the freezer for whatever pie i want to make next.

I stopped hosting a few years back. My family comes over, makes a mess, and hardly offers to help with anything. It's just easier if we don't go somewhere else having just us. We declined going to Napa Valley for her relatives, too much hassle for 3 days. FWIW I don't clean the house until after people leave, not before. We have 4 big dogs and they always have hair floating around the house somewhere.

I'm brining the turkey right now, and it will go in the smoker after we run a 5 mile Turkey Trot, yes we are those kind of people. Friday I am off and working on my new computer build while she shops online probably. Thanksgiving after dinner is always a treat for the dogs as I cut up the remaining turkey and throw the carcass away. I have 4 dogs sitting around me waiting for scraps, and they always get some. Lots of snoring going on in our living room by 8:00 that night usually as we all gather there after. My old female shepherd snores like you wouldn't believe she's loud.

Happy Thanksgiving in advance all! Relatives come in today.

I worked at a manufacturing place that would host a luncheon for the employees on the day before Thanksgiving. It would be a full Turkey dinner. I always thought that was the stupidest thing in the world, I even told them that. Have anything besides Turkey on the day before Thanksgiving.

I have to confess to not liking turkey much. But…. I love ham! family indulges my preference for all holidays 🥰

For Thanksgiving we're off to the wife's aunt's house and we're only responsible for a side or two.

The real carnage happens on Saturday when we host Friendsgiving with a bunch of our old martial arts friends. I picked up a turkey from the store about a week back. It was smaller than I wanted, 14# for 17 or so people, but I needed to get something before they were all gone. Store got a final restock recently so the wife picked up a second at about 20#. I think I'll spatch the bigger one and dry brine in the fridge before convection roasting. The smaller one I'll probably quarter and dry brine before some light smoke time on the vertical electric.

Then I'll make some proper citrus cranberry sauce, two textures, because the wife's grandparents insist on doing the cranberries on Thursday and they bring this gross uncooked cranberry relish garbage.
