Great game but it has its flaws.
1) It is a ~8 hour game and by the ~4 hour mark, the people who are clearly going to lose don't want to play any more. I don't think I've ever finished more than one complete game (using the board version). The computer game drastically shortens the time required, but it isn't as fun for some reason.
2) It is too predictable. There are one or two good strategies for each country. Thus every game, everone plays the same as they did last time. It gets quite repetitive. I'd love to see a game with the complexity of Axis and Allies but the randomness of Risk.

My step brother does, but I haven't ever had the time to join him.

Didn't they make a PC game based on the board game a few years ago?

Easy battles that are supposed to be won (like the initial japanese one if the pacific) is too dependent on rolls. Its a great board game, but the time and effort involved isn't really worth it for me.
Anyone letting Russia ammass that kind of an army deserves to lose.

You just need to play with some people who have creative minds. There are a number of ways to constantly change the game. If you constantly disrupt your opponents plan (easy if you know what it is) he will be forced to change it on the fly.
