Anyone else owned by spam?

I've had more email accounts then I can remember, and I am *always* cautious about signing up for stuff, in fear of spam/junk mail. I have several email addresses, and one 'main' one. I only sign up for something under my main one if it is either a purchase receipt, or something else "important".

Even though I'm cautious, I still have been getting owned by spam lately. It sucks because it's on my main account (gmail), and I got lucky enough to get my own name, so I can't just "get a new one".

I get at least 100 spam messages a day. 99% of them are directed to the junk mail folder, but that still is annoying. I will get 5 duplicates of each email usually, and 90% of them are BS messages telling me to buy some POS stocks. (Each day I will get them for all these different stocks saying to buy and I will be rich).

There are no unsubscribe buttons, they are always sent from random email addresses... How can I handle this?

Because its not 100 different sites sending me spam, its one or two.
Some how, I got on a mailing list for ONE site, and they send me about 100 messages a day. I will have like 15-20 of the same message...

I've always heard not to unsubscribe even if it's available because then they know it's an active email account.
If the Gmail filters are working i don't know what you can do about it. Use a different email to subscribe to the "important" online stuff.

If it's all coming from teh same place, can't you block the sender? (i'd have to look at the Gmail filters better, don't know offhand)

I've had my Yahoo account for as long as I've been on the 'net. I get just shy of 200 emails into my bulk mail folder daily, and a half dozen that are missed by the filter and delivered to my inbox.

Stop hitting the unsubscribe buttons. All it does is tell them that their emails are being recieved.

Well.. all of the emails are nearly identical. All saying to go to www.xxxxx.com and to buy xxxxx stock... but the 'from' address is always random (like random letters and random domains it seems), and they are always pushing a different stock, saying that its just about to blow up.

I think spammers now spam 'blindly' to common domains. It's like telemarketers who call random combination of numbers, not necessarily because they got your phone number.

That's funny... I'm careful with my "main" email account, and I don't receive spams... at all. The only people I've shared that email addy with are people who are smart enough to use bcc, rather than putting everyone in the "to:" I have a special account for sites where I have to sign up for stuff. I simply sign up, check the most recent email to confirm my subscription, and leave that email account. There must be eleventy bazillion spams in there (even though, the majority of those companies promise not to share the addy)
