Anyone else notices that RAM prices are finally coming down?

Now it feels that RAM prices are finally lowering again. I remember when 8GB of ram used to be around $80 a year ago. Now the average price for it on Amazon and Newegg is around $60! It still isn't at the $40 price point from 2011 but it's starting to get there. I managed to get a 8gb stick of crucial ballistix ram for just $38 a month ago.

I guess it might be because of DDR4 but DDR4 isn't that much more expensive either.

I have no need any memory for the foreseeable future, so I haven't been paying any attention.

Yeah, I've had the notion that DDR 3 prices were slipping a bit in the last 3 months or so; maybe 10%, not drastically.

Newegg's DDR4 price for Crucial's cheapest 2 x 4 GB pair (8 total) is 67 today. It was 79 on April 18, 93 on Feb 28, and 110 on introduction last August. That's a 28 percent decline in 3 months.

Amazon had 8GB Ballistix kits on sale for $45 about a week ago. Picked one up.

I saw 16GB of DDR3 on SlickDeals for $79.99 (not sure if after rebate) today. Lowest I've seen for 2-8GB sticks in some time.

I picked up two 16GB (2x8GB) kits of GSKill DDR3-1600 RAM recently, on SS, for $94.99 ea. I thought that was a pretty good price, recently-speaking.

I stockpiled DDR3, when I could get an 8GB (2x4GB) kit for $30. Only, I guess I didn't stockpile enough. :p

If the trend holds, perhaps I should snag a decent 4x8GB kit while they're cheap... :hmm:

Thanks for the info, will keep an eye on prices... :)

My new servers came with DDR4 ram. 32gb each. Havent run speed tests yet. Hell, didnt even hear about DDR4 until these servers came in last week. I am so behind the times.

I noticed it today. 16GB DDR3 for less than $100.

I think I saw that, too. Likely certain models of RAM kits at the egg, but I did see or recollect something like $99 for a 2x8GB kit. It just might not be the 2x8GB kit that I particularly want.

It's about damn time those price fixing bastards stopped. Even at $100 for 16gb, it's still 25% more than 2011.

I just picked up another 16gb of unbuffered ecc for $155. Last december I paid $160 for the same ram. So I just saved 5 dollars. lol.

DDR4 prices are what stopped me from building an X99 system recently. Once those come down I think I'm going to jump on the low end hex processor (whatever that happens to be at the time).

Wait for Broadwell-E in Q1 2016 (build in Q2 maybe?).

I am hoping for 32GB of DDR4 for under $200 in 2016. ( wishful thinking :hmm: )

a few years back I bought a 2x8gb kit for my laptop for 66$. I had to RMA one 2 months ago and figured it would be cheap and easier to just buy a new one but it was more expensive to buy a single 8gb stck than the kit I had bought.

Prices should be much lower than they are I would think.
