Anyone else notice a major problem with high end sytems and games lately?

Whats up with newer games running slow on high end systems? seriously, like C&C renegade, totally slow on a ton of high end systems mainly with geforce 3 and 4, Warrior kings, Medal of honor, Dungeon siege (awesome just got it yesterday but it runs slow! like 15fps when in town or fighting with lots of stuff) I however did get JKII and it ran just fine smooth as silk with everything on high even in that swamp lv. I was just wondering if anyone else noticed this, it seems to be nvidia cards having this problem or so i've seen, you can just look on the forums for these games and see the post about running slow on high end systems.

It seems to me like the games are just one step ahead of the technology lately. I mean... you can play a game perfectly fine until you get to a battle scene, and then it slows waaaayyyy down. I mean.... cmon.

I don't have that problem at all. JKII with everything turned up high runs smooth and fast, and Dungeon Siege, with 4X AA (which makes it look 100X times better) and everyhing maxd runs very quickly. And I've only got an Athlon 1.1 and GF3 Ti200.

or programmers don't bother optimizing their code since they figure the user can throw more GHz and MBs at it. Look at Serious Sam, even with lotsa enemies on the screen, the game doesn't lose its smoothness. Now that's good code.

Well all I know is that I have a celeron 1000 with 448 ram and a gf3 at 520/500 (so basically a top of the line gf3). Warcraft3, though in beta, runs decently most of the time but in heavy battles absolutely pathetically. JKII runs ok most of the time but on that swamp level I had to lower it to 800X600 and it still wasn't great.

I think game makers are forgetting to optimize code also (ie, lazy). Although my cpu isn't high end there are still many people with P3s and I do have a great video card, but I still feel compelled to get a CPU upgrade so that my games run better.

no its not drivers and if it is then they should fix it, but also anyone notice that people with even lower systems are saying that they are running the games better? i have seen comments on forums for renegade and dungeon siege and they are getting better performance on their low end system then a lot of high end system people.

serious sam 2 is far from optimized. Run it on anything less than a gf3 and you'll see what i mean. The game is horrendously slow in outdoor scenes and the graphics aren't even that great (low poly counts).

B.S. it runs great on my GF2 w/ a 933 PIII

Only new games I 've played are Jedi Knight II and Tony Hawk 3...
both run good on my TBird 1.4 with a Geforce 2 GTS...

Still wanna upgrade the video card though.

haha, i thought i was the only weirdo that noticed that on my system. had a PII 450/TNT and upgraded to an Athlon 1.4/Radeon and i see very little to no performance increase.

that is why consoles rule.
