This isn't flamebait, as it may seem, its aimed to fans of the series. I've read the series like 3 or 4 times now, its the best thing I've ever read...but I don't want to see the movie. Like I have an overactive imagination so when I read I 'see' whats going on...and since LOTR is so well written I have this huge world mapped out in my head, and I just think that if I saw the movie it would totally crush that image and kinda ruin it for me...anyone feel the same way?

I know some people who said the exact same thing about the Harry Potter movie. They said they regretted seeing it because it ruined their image of the book.

Im probobly going to see it. Im not that big a fan of the series but still.

I think it might ruin how I imagine it too, but I don't think I care. I'll be curious to see it anyway.

Me too, if only for the tokin' black guy that's just there to say things like "Bling! Bling!" and "Yo dat is whack!". I laughed for a solid 2 mins after I saw that.

Deeko! what are you on crack?!?!? :) Nah, I see your point. But the movie will only ruin your image of the books if you let it. LOTR is heavily imprinted in my mind now, and however the movie turns out I know that those original images I got in my head will still be there :) When I read the Lothlorien chapter 30 years from now, I won't immediately picture Cate Blanchet...I will see the original Galadriel as I always pictured her in my head.

Actually, I've already seen the movie ... the one that Ralph Bakshi (sp?) did a long time ago. It was a very dark and moody animated film, and while not 100% true to the books, it did a good job overall. Then again, it was usually shown at the "Midnight Movies" and most people had a buzz on ... so maybe the movie wasn't that good afterall ... I forget ... ;)

As for the real life movie characters' impressions affecting/ruining one's mental imagery of the same characters, from the movie clips I've seen so far in the Burger King commercials, Frodo looks quite right to me, but Gandalf is terrible IMHO.

WOW. HOLY FVCK. Sorry for the profanity but you are the VERY FIRST person I have encountered in these past 2 years who did not think Gandalf looks almost perfect. I'm curious now....how DID you picture him?

I have read the books, and I do want to see the movie, but I will wait for the DVD. It's only like a 3 - 4 month wait. I can buy the DVD for the cost to go to it in the theater and see it one time. And frankly, my home theater beats a movie theater anyday. Except the popcorn. Been trying to make movie theater style popcorn forever. I have tried like 10 variations of coconut oils and can NOT get it right.

I agree...home theater experience can be a lot better. I love my HT and my DVD collection is now around 90 titles...but here is where you seperate hardcore fans from people who just want to see it...there is no possible way I could wait another 3-4 months. I do not know how I'm going to last for another year before The Two Towers!!

RE: Movie Theater Popcorn, Hmm, perhaps it's not the oil but the Salt. At least one theater I know uses celery salt instead of regular salt on the popcorn.

As for the topic of this thread, I'm generally disappointed when the movie doesn't match my picture of the characters. In this case, I did not picture the hobits as humans but more animal like. So, that's going to be odd. But, it won't ruin the book(s) for me because I've already read them and have them in my head.

I guess my major complaint is that his hair and beard looks like a scraggly brownish gray, whereas I always imagined him with flowing white hair and beard ...

I have only seen the Burger King clips though.
