It seems like alot of pain for little reward. Everyone pretty much only plays CS these days... doesn't that get old after playing it 6 hours a day, 7 days a week? Then you go to a LAN so you can yell in real life instead of through the mic? Then there's the fact that gaming is not even remotely fun when your head hurts and you're nodding off at 6am. Then the next day you have to load up all your crap in the car and go home realizing that you just spent the night doing something you could have done from the comfort of your bedroom.

Play different games... I think LANs are great... I usually go to one every couple weeks. The whole atmosphere is what makes them fun... being able to play lag free, yell at people, have everybody see the sweet shots you get off :D It's a lot more fun playing a game with 16 of your friends than with 16 strangers you can't even see.

Yeah, CS is way old. At my last LAN (at a community college computer lab... much more convenient :D) We played MoH:SH, and next one we're going to do 1942:Road to Rome.

Most of the time we've bene playing HL:Firearms, and BF:1942. It's always been a blast :D

it's not the same calling your friends b|tches and telling them to suck it over the mike. Plus you should play different games. My all time favorite LAN game is still starcraft, because you know how good everyone is, relatively, and it's just craziness flying all over the keyboard and mouse...trying to outdo the other guy without lag. CS is good too, but gets old without something new. AvP was good as a LAN for about an hour or two, then some a$$ would shoot out all the lights and then it got old. Plus it's a good alternative for small towns where there's really not a whole lot for you and your friends to do.

It's too bad SC is only 8 players though :( Hopefully they'll come out with SC2 sometime in the next 10 years, but I'd be on "Warcraft:XX - Even sh!ttier than the first!"

My crew doesn't do the all-nighters much anymore. Set stuff up on a Friday evening and get a good night's sleep. Start Up and gaming by 0800hrs on Saturday and rap it up by 2000hrs. 12 hours of gaming & socializing w/out the hallmarks of the all night binge AND we get in full nights sleep on the weekends.

We run CS, HLDM, TFC, QIII, UT, BF, Crimson Skies, FreeSpace, now LOS.

It helps that I have servers and 5 game rigs set up in my SOHO and basement, but we don't always host at my pad.

Christ, that's your problem... you're still playing CS. I don't know anybody that still plays that game myself.

With my luck, sc2 would be console only. I didn't like warcraft 3 so much tho, the micromanagement kinda killed the strategy IMO. Everyone just used orc tauren and bloodlust + healing ward anyways. Or PotM + huntresses for a while. Tower defense is good for about 1 game in a LAN tho.

i don't like them anymore...21" monitor, and i live on the third floor

I usually provide spare 17 inchers when I host a LAN because Some people just have ridiculous screens or bolted onto the wall lcds. I also have a 2 spare rigs, we call them tweedledee and tweedledum that will run CS and little more after that equally(v5 -- best pci vid card evar!). and I usually give up my own rig and use one of those if someone is experiencing system failure at that point.

It is much more intense playing at a LAN. I wouldn't want to do it all the time because I hate lugging my computer around, but it is fun to do every once in a while.
