Anyone else name their PCs?

bigboxes

I just built a new 4790K system. I named it Robb Stark (in Windows). My previous main rig was an i7 920 named Vincent Vega. My file server is named Elwood (from the Blues Brothers). I used to have an X2 4400+ as my main rig, named Jake. Was wondering if the AT community had any creative names they came up with for their computers. TIA

yes I name my computers but usually with the name of the processor, such as core2duo etc.

TimberWolf
Kodiak
atlas
summoner
marauder

mech lover 😉

I stopped naming my PC anything fancy over 10 years ago. Since then I have just named it after my gaming handle (helped at lans at the time). I see no reason to change since.

Now storage drives, that is a different matter. They get named after objects in the solar system.

I've always though naming stuff like your computers, guns, cars and whatnot was a little odd, although I have called my computers, guns, cars and whatnot some names I can't put here...

As far as ID'ing a computer... I just number them.

yes.. I usually call it "sandy bridge rig" or "Home theater PC" ... next one may very well be called "skylake build" or along those lines.

Is "TIA" a name, Biggie-boxes? I don't know why, but I guessed a gender before I read the end of your post -- and I don't know why. Well -- there would easily have been another reason: "Robb . . Vincent . . . Elwood."

Reminds me of the Liberty Mutual (?) car insurance policy about the totaled car named Brad.

Anyway, I might have named my five systems "Dolly," "Marilyn," "Madonna" . . . . Instead, I might have named them according to an essential, varying hardware feature or product code. Knowing that, you could probably compile a list of various "special hardware" makes and models -- to penetrate my double firewall and other defenses. Probably not . . .

My names aren't as consistent as I might have wanted for "maintenance" reasons. I may have named a machine for a famous bomb or airplane; some . . . wonder-of-the-world; a radio-call code in an old Rock Hudson movie; some colorfully-named road or thorough-fare.

Why you be so in'nerested in peebles' machine-names, sistah? 😵

Network name = Movies

Main Rig is Skynet
Second PC is Ironman
netbook = Matrix

I wish i could name my android phones and tablets.

I name my cars. In the past I used names from the Flinstones (Fred, Wilma, Pebbles, Barney). Recently, decided to go with Seinfeld characters and named my current Camry, George (Constanza). I don't name my guns though. Maybe I should. :hmm:

I name(d) my cars too.

My old hyundai was Karen, named after Planktons computer wife.
My Jetta is Dorthea, named after the red slippers from wizard of oz.
My subaru is named Rex........its a WRX.

I've named all of my computers after the star destroyers in Grand Admiral Thrawn's fleet:

Main Rig - Chimaera
Torrent Box - Bellicose
Secondary Rig - Relentless
Laptop - Judicator

On a side note, I named my work devices as well:

iPad - Benedict
iPhone - Arnold

yeah i name my pc when it says "name this pc". but i don't actually call it that IRL.

Well, yeah, I don't refer to it all the time as Robb Stark. On any given day it's just the "main rig" or the "file server". However, every build means something to me and to differentiate them I like to give them a creative name. I've had lots of "main rigs", but I feel a unique attachment to them. That's why I'm a techie. You tell this to someone who doesn't share a love for computers and they will think you're nuts. Maybe I am. 😛

-hime i use to name my servers.... 😀
so i have Red... Black... White... and War... named servers...

The others are names of PC inside my home network, like my torrent box, my laptop, and my desktop.

I have 5 more PC's which aren't online that belong to my family which i have also named.

Yeah I use name and that's my actual name and always will be, the same name which I am carrying since my birth!

Just don't name it Newman...

I guess I'm guilty of that... my XR650 is the Torque-a-Saurus, but the 1000 was, well, the 1000.
