And if so, which do you prefer? i tend to use darker beers as they seem to give a better taste to the steak, guinness or harp (irish) for instance. i've tried sam adams with mixed results, anyone have any tips? (i'm preparing tomorrows dinner tonight which is why i ask now)

Waste of good beer isn't it? :Q

I just use seasoning salt and pepper, before putting them on the grill.

I've never heard of that.... I'll try it... I can see how a dark beer would be preferable.... hmm have you augmented it with spices? I'm gonna try guiness with Garlic crushed black pepper and some rosemary....

is this for breakfast ? :p

no wonder we're a country of fatties.

any beer will do, since they're all able to better disguise the millions of bacterial microbes packed into the slabs of dead cow.
you wont taste a thing ;)

I've tried Newcastle and I've used cheap American domestics on beef. Haven't noticed much of a difference in what they do, so the 18pack of bud light works for me. Beer is the best base for chicken, beef or pork marinades.

Wow, sounds yummy....

Hey Beau, do you have any good recipes for this? I usually like to marinate the steak for a day to make sure the flavour goes all the way thru.

I think budweiser is a good beer to marinate steak in. You don't want beer to overwhelm the meat. Beer should be used as a compliment to it. One time I made a good steak using kikoman soy sauce, mustard, molasses, beer, salt, pepper, garlic powder, and some vinegar. Came out really good the first time. Best steak I've ever had. I didn't write down what I put in and tried to make it a second time but that didn't work out too well.

I knew people marinated ribs in beer, but I didn't know about steak......gotta try this sometime.

So how long do I marinade it for?

Is it just for flavor or does it make the meat more tender? Or both?

When I was seventeen,
I drank some very good beer,
I drank some very good beer I purchased with a fake ID,
My name was Brian McGee,
I stayed up listening to Queen,
When I was seventeen.

WHAT?! hehehe george foreman grill for making a steak?? what is that? :p Gotta use a nice charcoal grill or broil the steak. For some reason I love broiling meat now. Just seems to turn out better. As for beer, yes I've marinated steaks and other meats in beer. Let's see, used pretty much the standard domestics. Then I tried guiness, bass, heiny, etc. Can't say I really tell the difference though. I usually just use whatever i'm drinking that day. And I tend to only marinate for about an hour, outside of the fridge. Over marinated steak... well you kind of lose the flavor of the beef. Which i believe is really important. :) and I prefer medium rare. Sopping up the blood w/ some bread is good. :p
