Anyone else loving the 'dying' socket?

I'm just wondering how many other folks like me might be out there waiting for the Q9550 to get cheap and assembling a nice P45 system around it. I like that LGA775 is being phased out. RAM and mobos are so cheap right now, and only the Q9550 which is a solid performer and OCer is keeping me from pulling the trigger right now.

I have an E8400. I'm waiting to upgrade to the Q9650 when the prices drop a little more. This will be my last CPU upgrade for a long, long time.🙂

I just picked up an E8500 for $150 that's now at 3.8GHz. I'll pick up a Q9650 in a year or so, then be done with this socket. Maybe I'll even keep my P35 chipset!

man i hate my motherboard.... but still s775 still rocks i'm not financially ready for i7 so until then i'll get a nice oc'able board like a DFI and a Q8x00 and that's gonna be it for a while...

I got in on the Fry's combo deal some time ago for the Q9550 and some ECS board for $229 that I overclocked an e2180 on and put the Q9550 on a $120 Gigabyte P45 board and have it at 4Ghz. I see no compelling reason to upgrade for the forseeable future. It's unbelievable the CPU power we can buy for the money these days.

I bought an E5200 setup in January.
I knew I wasn't going to be able to afford i7 at all in the near future, so I went with a dead socket that will still leave me room if I really need to go quad, or I can go i7/AM3 when they get affordable. The E5200 overclocks so easily it's almost crazy not to get it (upgrading from X2 4200+ 939).

My mobo doesn't support 45nm quads. =(

I want to get an E8500, but anything $150+ seems too expensive when there doesn't seem much point in 3GHz and beyond. =/

Now I just have to wait for another steal-deal on an open box DFI P45. I got my current P35 for like 80$. Definitely not bad for a DFI board. 🙂

the 755 Q processors are extremely overpriced right now... the nehalem CPUs are much more attractive if you only consider CPU cost, but nehalem requires expensive mobo and ram... I want a drop in replacement but i just dont have the heart to at such obscene prices.

The i7 is simply much better price/$ and is insignificantly more expensive in just the price (which it more than compensates for by having much greater power and taking less electricity)... if only the damn mobos weren't so expensive!

939 is still fetching some serious pricing. I'm shocket it has held on this long.

I skipped over the initial P4 line, but i'm loving the 775 stuff. I just thought the pricing would fall faster after the release of 1366 but it's hanging on rather well too.

Heh, I've been lovin' the AM2 socket - I have a 3 year old $80 (new) mobo I can put a 940 in if I want too... 🙂

Same here, 5200 rocks!

I will be sticking with the 775 for quite some time. Really like the platform. Most likely will get a couple more Quads. I use My rigs for Folding and they do quite well. i7 will most likely be a build for me sometime later this year. But the build will be spread out over a couple of months or so. 🙂

is there any reason for folders to throw away money on an i7? Get a quadfire motherboard with a single core K8 and load up on RV770 LEs.
