Apparently I haven't watched in a while because I just saw an episode on this weekend (Saturday?) where Armondo said he was no longer in business with his brother because of a difference of opinion? They apparently also changed their name to The Montelongo Companies..... So now the show is just Armondo, his wife, and the intern idiot?

IMO, I wouldn't buy any of their houses, they cut a lot of corners.

Anyone?

he was just lucky the market was good, so he made money even if he screwed up. I predict that he won't be in business anymore, especially with the stupid intern. I like the other show, the one with Richard, Ginger, Trademark company...they are really pro and can flip a house under a week. Armondo usually take weeks to flip one, oh supposingly he has a book out on how to flip houses too.

That Armondo guy is just a fat piece of shit. The only thing that guy is good at is pretending he's mister big shot.

His wife is a moron too. She's hot, but still a moron.

The best one of these shows is "Buy Me" which seems to take place in Canada, mostly Quebec? Its not a remodeling show really, it just a show about people trying to sell their houses. It is hilarious how many horrible dumps are on this show, and how god awful some of the people are. Its just plain good television.

Are you talking about the Cat House? The first 30 minutes of that made me want to puke. I can't believe people can treat a house like that.

Uhh, what? TV guide says Flip That House, and they are all an hour long.

Ones on TLC and the other is on A&E or something like that.

I like both of them though.

I think I like Property Ladder the most, which is on Saturday nights on TLC.

I stopped watching Flip THIS House after Richard Davis left. Wasn't a fan of the Montelongos. The Atlanta group was a bit more likable, but neither could compare to the Trademark group.

I watched Flip THAT House a few times and didn't care for it. They seemed to deal with people who didn't really know what they were doing, mostly Californians who were trying to flip a house for the first time and knew nothing about construction.

Richard has a new show with the same team of people and it's on TLC or Discovery now.

Can't recall the name though.

But, if you're buying a $150K house and putting on granite counter tops, doing a ceramic tile bath, and expecting to get $200K when all the houses in the neighborhood are going for $150K then you're flipping out of your mind.
Exactly. Hopefully, this will be the end of many completely stupid fads: open floor plans, $50k-$100k kitchen remodels, stainless steel everything, massive garages with small attached house, etc.

I bought my house because I wanted to live it in. I didn't like a few things, so I ripped them out. $300 later, I have a fabulous new kitchen countertop. Will I get that $300 back when I sell? Who knows. But I certainly didn't blow $50k on the kitchen hoping to make a buck.

What's wrong with open floor plans?

Not everybody likes them. I prefer a little more intimacy to each room.

But if you go to new houses, they ALL have open kitchens. Looks fantastic in a new, clean model home, but when you're trying to relax in the living room and the kitchen is a mess with dishes piled up or clutter on the countertops you may feel differently. Or when somebody goes to grab drinks or pop popcorn during a movie you get to watch the whole process our of your peripherals. Meh.

I bet you don't like people texting in movie theaters too. :p

It was The Real Deal then it changed to The Real Estate Pros

Yeah i saw that one...i wanted to smack that guy so bad...he didn't want to do any manual labor. He would stop by with that stupid dog of his. Surprisingly they still remained friends, but they lost alot of money on the flip. When the show ended, they dropped the price 20 grand and still had no offers.

Watched one of these shows for the first time the other day (Property Ladder). Some genius (Nathan) buys a condo in CA with his partner and their plan is to rehab it in two weeks(!) for $12K to make a $68K profit. Nathan refuses to do "manual labor", which by his definition includes making a phone call to have a dumpster delivered to the site. He stops by the condo periodically, spouts platitudes about "positive energy" and numerology like a brainless motivational speaker, while his partner and another guy do all the work. Week after week goes by with slow progress. Nathan's solution to the problem is to contract out the remaining work, but doesn't seem to care about the extra cost.

Sixteen weeks later, they still aren't done, have spent $20K, but have an open house anyway. Bottom line is that three RE agents give the same opinion on the value which will mean about zero profit on the attempted flip. Nathan refuses to drop the price, yet has to fork out $4K/month mortgage payments.

If that show is ANY indication of the typical "flipper", no wonder so many are going to go bankrupt.

It does make you shake your head. One of the shows features a real estate expert who stops by periodically to check on the progress and make suggestions. Her suggestions are almost always good ones, and yet the first time "flippers" often ignore her advice and have their decisions come back to haunt them.

If there's one thing I've learned from these shows, it's to hire a general contractor if you're doing a flip. The DIY approach may seem like a good way to save money at first, but every DIY job I've seen runs into tons of delays and problems and ends up costing the homeowner more than if they'd hired a crew to begin with.

The shows are informative altho sometimes tough to listen to the all the arrogant pricks' diatribe. 'Flipped Out'(?) on bravo is the worst imo.

They look good, but function horribly. Bad smells, bad sights, bad everything invades whatever you do. And you can't escape it.

[*]Do you ever want privacy? Tough luck. When you have company over, you get to see every bad habit that they have.
[*]Like watching your elderly parents make out when they come over for Christmas? Too bad, you'll see it anyways. You have no where to go, and neither do they.
[*]Have you ever wanted to read a book, relax, or do anything in peace and quiet? Too bad, since your house bascially has one room, you get to hear every clatter of the kitchen pots, every annoying scream from little girls playing, every misplayed note as your son tries to learn to play an instrument.
[*]Like really getting into a good computer game? Too bad, you'll have to shut off the sound so your spouse can watch Oprah (the game noise from the computer in the same room is too much for her).
[*]Same goes if you both want to listen to different music - when you have just one big room, someone has to listen to crap music. That is, if you can even hear the music over the noise of the dishwasher that now invades your living/family room.
[*]Want to do your bills/taxes? Have fun doing it as the dog jumps over you playing catch with your kids.
[*]Cat take a dump on your carpet? Instead of a cheap carpet swap, now you have to recarpet the entire house.
[*]Have a great couch that would perfectly match your entertainment center? Too bad that couch now clashes with kitchen cabinets. Not to mention the mold on the dishes.

I could go on and on. For example: You can't have fun with lots of different decoration styles (they now all have to blend).

If you want an open floor plan, get a studio apartment. Walls are there for a reason.

Everyone have different taste.

I like to keep my kitchen clean while cooking and right after dinner, and I use my dishwasher to store the dirty dishes when there are guests so that I can entertain them.

I can't stand carpet, therefore my house is covered with hardwood floor & tiles that take me less than 10 min every other day to clean.

The open plan gives me more room to entertain my guests, and the bedroom or office is where I get my privacy.

My entertainment center is hidden inside my wall & is accessible from the back side which is my garage. The speakers are in wall and is cover with tasteful gill that virtually invisible and paint to match the walls. The TV is above my fireplace and is cover by a up slide cabinet door (door same colour as wall).

My living room leather furniture match the dining room stained teak furniture colour and they are darker than the kitchen cabinets but it doesn?t bother me or my GF.

I would love to have separate rooms for my house but the house has to be several thousand feet larger so that I can have large lofty rooms with double French doors to separate the rooms.

I'm too busy to watch TV & those house flipper shows aren't worth my time, however my GF love them.
