Hell yes.

Major medical bills, utility bills went through the roof, 2 very expensive car repairs, and other assorted crap meant absolutely NO money this year. We had to cut back on everything, and a few weeks didn't even have money to go grocery shopping. We're just starting to recover, then I get a nastygram from our local government office saying I haven't paid local taxes and I have to go to court, meaning all of the money I saved for the kids for Christmas is probably going to be gone. I'm currently trying to get a second part time job, but none of them sync with my work schedule.

2012= year of the suck

I lost my remaining 2 grandparents this year. I handled it okay as we weren't that close, but still... I think the worst part was being 1000s of miles away from my parents and couldn't do anything for them. My mom especially, because her dad died when my dad was also across the country at his own dad's funeral.

How do you define a "bad" year?

On the good side the family continues to be very healthy.

On the not-so-good side the wife is still unemployed and I haven't had a pay raise in 2 years ... while costs continue to go up and up and up.

By my definition we have had a good year ...

Also OP, you seem to have power

I can think of a large group of people who's year has taken a sudden downturn

Good year for me. Not that great financially but the most of it was stuff I expected. I knew I had to get the weeping tiles redone (around 15k) and a new car (got one for 5k). Now all that is done and taken care of, so I'm doing ok.

Everything else has been great. Being single life is very simple which is what I like. I also started a new job last December and I enjoy it a lot, so it's been a great year.

And first of all, I still have a house and probably always will (we don't get those big storms). Lot of people right now don't. :( my prayers are with them.

If everyone is healthy, you had a good year. Seriously. Money can be made. Cutbacks can be made. But if you don't have your health, you're not having a good year.

Good year here. Got a decent annual raise + bonus + stock, and company is giving us the full week of Thanksgiving off with pay.

What's a raise and bonus? I never heard of those terms before in a corporate setting. :p At least not my company haha. Actually we used to get anual cost of living raises and a bonus but they recently took that away. It was nice while it lasted but we all knew the day was coming. Companies always find places to cut.

Yup. Cant lose weight or get a job. Chevy keeps breaking. School is kicking my ass. Got another kidney stone. Women atopped pretending to like me. Illegals taking over my town. Price of every thing going up in my neighborhood. Mom keeps asking for help with gadgets she refuses to learn, (tablet, laptop, smartphone) and all my wories have led to a sleep disorder.

Perspective? All of the stuff I've seen and witnessed this passed year has put into perspective just how fortunate I really am.

Family and friends are all alive and well (sort of, there were some close calls), I have an amazing girlfriend, I got an awesome job, was able to buy a new car in cash. I also started working out more and I'm now in better shape than I have been in years.

Every time I want to think that things suck, I stop and think about all of the good in my life.

Yes, probably the worst year of my life. But all the bad stuff that happened is only temporary and in the long run, could end up being the best year of my life.

Well, it was a decent year until this month. Now? Could definitely go either way. Only a time frame between 8 hours and 4 months will tell for sure.* In the mean time it sure is stressful.

*Yes - that would drag it into next year

Well, if you lost your job, car, savings, house and your spouse got jailed for raping and killing some children I don't think you qualify as having a 'good' year just because everyone is healthy

Just a bad year? Mother fucker please! It's brutal!

I've been in the biggest dry spell in relation to seeing cute girls since the fucking dust bowl. I live in a shit hole city full of fucking idiots and passive-aggressive assholes. I haven't found a new girl to get even remotely invested in in over a year and the last one I was interested in wasn't even living in this fucking city!

I'm constantly trying to find a way out of this shit hole because I hate it. But I can't because I have a free ride to a shit hole university for a fucking worthless degree. My GPA keeps falling because I am so fucking miserable from being around such FUCKING MORONS. Honestly, if the fucking government just took that shit somehow then I would GTFO immediately. Instead I'm here going, "Do I pay out of state tuition for 2 more years in a program that I could like or just graduate with this worthless degree, be debt free, and hopelessly in pain for another 20 months? NOT SURE BRO. NOT SURE."

No cute girls. No one worth being around. Every dimension of my academic and professional life is full of bullshit. I live in a fucking city that is WET, COLD, AND GLOOMY FAR TOO OFTEN. (At least 6 out of 7 days of the year for 9 months, mother fucker. And then guess what? SUMMER EXISTS FOR MAYBE 2-3 WEEKS AND THEN IT'S GONE. BACK TO COLD AND WET AND FUCKING EVERYTHING UP)

God damn I HATE IT. I LOATHE IT. I WANT NONE OF IT. I TRY SO HARD, BUT I CAN'T RESIST THAT LITTLE HELL-HOLE'S ... you get the picture.

I'm finally applying to out of state universities, but since my GPA has fallen my accumulative is a shitty 3.61 now. It's fucking pathetic and I won't get into any decent universities, but whatever. I might be moving out of this fucking hell hole in January if my trip down to SoCal goes over well.

This year has been difficult, but in just the last two weeks, things are starting to look up. Weird.

Most of my good years were created with selective memory. I haven't been able to work the magic on this year, so it still sucks.

Most companies are like this now. When I was in IT and worked at different customer sites all of them were in "cut back mode". Old P4 computers, not wanting to buy stuff etc. I work for one of the few big enough companies that pay more than minimum wage for IT stuff. Well I'm not really doing IT anymore, more telecommunications but not a lot of that either. Few companies here pay 30/hour and since I do shift work and it's 40 hour weeks it ends up being quite a lot at the end. I'll probably make over 70k at the end of the year.

So definitely can't complain, but a bonus and cost of living raise would definitely be nice. :p
