I use my pointer, middle and thumb only and glance down as a type. Been doing so since I was very young and never took to typing instruction.

Anyone else do improper typing while spending a good deal of time on computers?
I can still break out about 50 words per minute, but plateau due to the fact that typing tests require you to write a script that makes you look up, while writing something original doesn't.

edit: if so, how fast can you type?

Really, it's not that hard to learn to touch type. Mavis Beacon really did work for me.

I type roughly 75-80wpm with numbers and symbols. Faster if it's just common words or chatting or something like that.

It really is worth it to learn to type. After maybe a month or two, typing will be alot easier and faster than handwriting. The hardest part is learning the home key. Once you figure out that each finger is only "responsible" for 3 or 4 letters and your muscle memory kicks in, typing becomes completely mindless.

I only do about 60 when I take typing tests, but that is still pretty fast, faster than most people I have ever met.

I can type relatively fast, I rarely look down and can avoid doing so if I so choose. I've never taken a class for it, nor do I care to. I guess it's just a habbit when you post so much on forums...

I can generally type 80 wpm with 100% accuracy. But when I'm tired, sometimes the words will sound right but be the wrong word. For instance, I may type support instead of sport. It's really weird.
