I follow local teams only on the basis if they're winning or not. I won't actually waste my time by watching games on TV. Live is okay, but I only go to one event every few years so as to keep it somewhat interesting.

How is the local NFL football team winning anything, a victory for the city? Are any of the players local? Did they grow up here? Is this there hometown? The team's owner had enough money and paid players to come here, play, and win. Those players have no loyalty to the city or the team. Who ever offers them more when their contract is up, they join that team.

Same goes for Basketball and Baseball. If the Houston Rockets win the championship, it's basically a bunch of players who were hired to play. The same team could have belonged to the LA, and would have done the same.

So basically sports is "I have money, let me get the best players and win".

Edit: Just a clarification. I am talking about being interested in watching sports on TV. Playing sports is still cool!

My feelings exactly!

Almost exactly . . . and close enough. WATCHING - not participating - in sports is boring. . . . and therefore I don't care about results. I don't like to get my "exercise" vicariously.

Me too like when I am in a Bar and it's on or during the Playoffs. I like watching a good football game but that's usually a hit and miss proposition (Niners/Browns and the Patsies/ Jets last week both sucked hind tit)

I watch sports only with friends, its like watching a so-so movie. If I am watching TV alone, I rather switch channels to movies. I need entertainment, not some boring game.

Not into sports, although an occasional KIngs game is ok. imho, they are the most entertaining team in NBA.

so is rock climbing mainstream enough to be called a sport yet?

Bingo. I think the whole wildcard thing was one of the worst things they did to baseball. If they would do away with that and the DH in the AL it would be a vast improvement IMHO. Nothing beat the excitement of races right up to the end knowing that it was winner take all, runner ups go home.

i like baseball, basketball (pro and college), football (pro and college), boxing, and when summer comes around, i go to the track to watch horse racing.

the suspense watching a close game go into the 9th inning, trying to et-up a 3-point play with a second left on the clock, or hitting the last second field goal to win the game. records being broken left and right, dreams crushed and fulfilled all in the same night, and most importantly, getting a free picther of beer because your best friend's team lost and he now owes you.

I like watching racing, playing basketball, and I used to like playing hockey (none of my friends play anymore, so I don't get much play time).

Really, who wants to see a second place team win it all when they weren't even good enough to win their Division?

I dunno I kinda like the wild card for this reason... let's say you have 2 REALLY good teams in one division, and then a bunch of loser teams in another division. The 2nd place team in the first division might have a better record than anyone in the crappy division, but since that crappy team wins their division, they make it in, instead of the better team who just happens to be in a better division.

Dunno, I just don't like that scenario playing out.

Unless a Laker, UCLA football/basketball, or a good NFL game is on, I would rather do something else for those two or three hours.

I've never liked playing or watching any team sports. I do like some individual sports like skiing and biking, though.
