Anyone Else Having Thanksgiving Alone?

I am. Now that my marriage is officially over, I won't be flying to IL to see her. Additionally all the money I spent on the divorce and getting her stuff back to her pretty much precludes my being able to afford an airline ticket to make it back to Chicago over the holidays to see my parents and sibs.

I'm pretty bitter still on how that all worked out.

This will be our smallest Thanksgiving ever. My parents, one of my two sisters, my wife, and myself. Kinda weird, but it just means more ham and dressing for me. Plus, my mom bought a Wii for herself, so this will be fun.

Even WoW is taking Thanksgiving off. No fricking AQ40 runs this Thursday. And last night, it took us 4 hours to get to Chromagus. I hate holidays.

I thought I was going to be alone this thanksgiving, but my wife (who I'm currently separated from) decided I can have the kids this week. So I'm cooking dinner for my dad and my kids. Anyone alone in Pittsburgh is welcome to come over. 🙂

Thanksgiving is not something we do over here, but if there are family get-togethers and I have a choice, I stay at home. Any family meeting will inevitably turn out in a big fight..

I think I would go down to the local homeless shelter before spending Turkey Day alone.

Too bad Daddy Bruce died.

Bruce then began telling me about his father?s Thanksgiving and Christmas tradition. It was inspired by Jesus and began in 1960 when Daddy Bruce would feed thousands of homeless and poor people on 34th Avenue in Denver outside of his restaurant. It wasn?t just for the hungry; he would say, but for the lonely too. This Denver-tradition continued for roughly 30 years until Daddy?s death in 1994.
For 10 years after Daddy died at age 94, the Rev. Gill Ford, his former pastor, continued the tradition with help from Bruce. But, instead of cooking meals, Ford and his team of volunteers distributed food baskets with turkey and trimmings. But a rift between Ford and the Rev. King Harris, whose Epworth United Methodist Church helped with last year?s giveaways, has ended the tradition.
Ford, who now lives out of state, says Harris was trying to take over the event without authorization from himself or the Randolph family. If the family couldn?t account for how the money raised in Randolph?s name would be spent, the event had to be cancelled, Ford said. On November 25, 2004, the tradition officially ended, a day Daddy never would have thought possible.

I'm going to my Aunt's house for Thanksgiving dinner (thats actually at lunch, wierd...).

Anyway I wished I was alone, and didn't have to go this year.

I'll be by myself too. Got no problem with that. My roommate is going home for the holiday, so I'll finally get the place to myself. (I don't like the inescapable social environment of college life one bit.)

Order a pizza from Domino's with sausage and pretend the sausage is turkey and that the delivery man is this chick. 😉

If she was spending Thanksgiving alone, I'd volunteer to keep her company. Just in the spirit of the holidays, of course.

I'm not doing anything. My closest family is 3 hours away, and I just got back home today because I was the only one at work that would travel to an install this week.

I worked for 13 years in a hotel, and I never had the holidays off, so I got in the habit of not doing anything. Of course, my family constantly tries to get me to come down for thanksgiving and christmas, but they are just another day to me. A couple of the ladies at work invited me over to have dinner with them and their family, but I'd prefer to just hang at home and unwind since I fly back out to my next install on Monday...

*shrug*

I am spending it alone, just like last year.

I moved halfway across the country and I don't have the time and money to fly home for a day. And, unfortunately I suppose, in a round about way I just discovered that the relationship I have with the girl I am dating isn't as meaningful as I thought it was. She went home (~3 hours away) without even bothering to ask me if I would like to come. Little upset about that.

On the other hand I have been working pretty hard at work and I am looking forward to doing absolutely nothing over the holiday.

I am. I stayed at school over break to get some work done building the race car. Most other people on the team are going home for tomorrow/Friday, but I just don't feel like driving 3 hours to go home. People are overrated anyway, right?

Probably.

Not even going to cook or anything. I'd like to, but what is the point for yourself?

Maybe I'll buy myself a big porterhouse or something.

You have horrible taste. Those breasts do not look good. Oh and turkey sucks.

I'd hit it.

A lot.

In all possible positions.
