Anyone else having problems with ATI's new Catalyst 3.4 drivers?

I am getting really slow frame rates in Nascar 2003 Season and Warcraft III. I have tried lowering the resolution and graphics settings but that doesn't seem to help at all. I have a AIW Radeon 8500DV. Warcraft III used to work fine with all settings cranked. I am thinking about reverting to the 3.2 drivers that I was using. Anyone else having similar problems?

I've stayed on the 3.2's myself. Do a bit of searching there are numerous threads on the 3.4's here. I've heard a lot of good stuff but some people are defineately having trouble.

What ever happened to the 3.3's?

Ati went from 3.2 to 3.4 since they were quite far in the 3.4 driver development(I believe there was a few things that needed fixing in 3.3 drivers before the release so didn`t seem worth releasing while the 3.4s were almost ready).

So far I am still using the Cat 3.2's. Experiencing slight texture problems in BF 1942 but not enough to warrant a change and the infamous crash with HL/CS.
If I was to upgrade to the cat 3.4 does sound correct on the uninstall process?
Create a system restore point so I can roll back if not satisfied
use driver cleaner to remove ATI cat 3.2's and control panel
search registry for any remaining files
install cat 3.4's and then control panel for 3.4

Feedback please.

God I am glad to not own an ATI video card. You have to go through all of that just to change the driver?

Jesus H Christ. That is 1996 style.

If you don't own an ATI card then WTF are you doing in this thread except blatant trolling? J. H. Christ just go F*ck off somewhere.

Can I get an Amen??

ATI's drivers are no better or worse than nVidia's - I own both.

Warcraft 3 runs like butter at 1792 x 1344 x 32 with 16x performance anisotropic on the Catalyst 3.4s

Yeah.. I had a problem with them. With a ATI 9500PRO, my 3DBenchmark2001SE score dropped from 10K to around 6K. I went back to the older drivers and it went back up to 10K.

i actually agree with genx87...

nvidia drivers, you don't even need to uninstall the old ones to upgrade...
you just run the setup.. and voila.. everything is updated.. so easy, and convenient...

and there aren't all these bugs...

i just upgraded from geforce3 to radeon 9700pro.. i know..

I just uninstall control panel and video driver from add remove programs. Restart cancel the found new hardware wizard and run the ati installs. Only bug I got is in rallisport
challenge. But I think it's more a game problem than driver problem.

Fair nuf, I'll agree with that. My original point still stands tho...if he doesn't have anything to contribute why even show up in the thread...he's just acting like some fanboy spouting off at the mouth.

i had a problem with CAT 3.4 drivers so i went back to 3.0.

i don't really know how to explain the problem, but in HL: DOD the 3.4 drivers actually changed the configuration of my keyboard. i don't use the default settings (wasd = moving forward, backward, etc), i use the arrow keys to move, Ctrl to jump, Shift to kneel, and Enter to go prone. anyway, when i would start a game and proceed to move forward i would go into the kneeling position. when i tried to change the settings back nothing would respond. it wouldn't let me assign anything on the keyboards number pad. and, when i tried to assign "drop primary weapon" to PGDN (not KP_PGDN), it would just jump down to the bottom of the list...so Catalyst 3.4 drivers = no good for me being that DoD is basically the only game that i am hopelessly addicted to.

Now that you mention that, I did notice something similar when setting up my secondary rig for WolfET....couldn't assign movements to the cursor keys (it would assign "shift" rather than the cursor). I hadn't noticed on my primary rig because I use default keys and my side button for forward movement, but my kids' mouse is just a wheel mouse and they like the arrow cursor keys also....he did something and now it works on the secondary rig, but I just checked...and same thing on my rig, it still assigns "shift" rather than the proper cursor key....I'll try to find out what he did to get it to work.

I find it no harder to change drivers with my ATI card, than my Geforce4 Ti4600 card. I had some initial problems with my Radeon 9700(CAT3.4s), but it turned out to be my nvidia audio did not like overclocking with acpi-uni installed. Got that srtaightened up, and 3.4s are running great for me.

I saw the same thing in EQ with the 3.4 drivers. I saw a post on rage3d.com (included) that talks about how to fix it. Hope this helps.
