Anyone else have problems with SurfBoard cable modems?

I've had a Motorola SurfBoard 5100 cable modem for 2.5 months now, and it sucks - drops signals, hangs, upstream power sometimes way too high...

4 techs have come out on 4 different occasions and there seems to be nothing wrong with the line itself (signals are fine)

Today they're comin to replace the modem, but I'm afraid it's gunna be another Surfboard 🙁 Guys in the networking thread said that the surfboards have a high failure rate 🙁 I've requested another brand but all's they carry are surfboards

I'm only going to be using the cable internet service for another ~20 days so buying a new modem isn't worth it

Actually, everything i've heard is that the surfboards have a much lower failure rate than the toshibas & 3COM's ....

I've had 2 surfboards for the past 4 years and they have been great...

I have a bulky 3Com cable modem and it has caused me nothing but trouble. Besides its big bulky odd size, I have to hard reboot it every day or two.

i had a surfboard 4200 up at school and it worked flawlessly, however this new SB5100 has caused me nothing but probs

I've had my SF4200 for 7 or 8 months now and it has worked perfectly.

Too bad my ISP is so stingy though. (448/96 for $40 a month)

I've had a Surfboard through Cox for almost two years and used it at two different places. No problems here...
