Anyone else have an Antec Peformance Series II SOHO ATX File Server case???

Found this deal at CompuUSA: http://www.compusa.com/product...code=297029&pfp=BROWSE I was going to get it through newegg but they didn't have the rebate. I also ordered a new mouse, fan, and thermal paste through CompUSA and got over $150 so I got free shipping which helped a lot too. Just wanted to know what people thought about this case and power supply. I hear good things about Antec and for $70 for the case and power supply (the power supply alone is $60 off newegg) I figured it was a pretty good buy.

I had that case, for a while. I got rid of it and picked up the Lian-Li V1100B. The Lian-Li is easily 10x the case as far as quality and noise control goes.

I'll probably never own another Antec case again, unless it's the aria since that fills a niche size fairly well.

The Antec 8xx, 1xxx series cases, along with their Chieftec/Chenming brethren, are first rate cases:beer: They are built out of very thick sturdy steel and are more of a workstation tower as apposed to a LAN party case. The build quality is outstanding and every bit the equal to a lian Li I receintly bought and sold because I didn't like the thin metal feel.

By modern standards the cases are lacking some features that some people are looking for such as 120mm fans and soft mount hard drives. This is not really that much of a downside unless one is looking to build a super quiet rig.

Some good things include:

- The case has very good airflow so just a couple of 80's in the back are enough for all but the hottest Prescotts.

- The floppy drive mounts on a removable tray which allows easy installation/removal.

- Front bezel is nice thick plastic and is easy to remove/install.

- Hard drives mount in a removable rack which mounts with the pull of a lever.

- Left side door is easy to remove with the use of latch.

I have one (actually a 1030B with a 300W supply I bought quite some time ago... upgraded to a 480W true blue antec... same chassis AFAIK), and I love it. I absolutely love it. It's heavy and sturdy, so moving it isn't much fun, but I love the accessibility. You mount your 5 1/4" drives on these little rails and then slide them into the case. It makes it so easy to take one out. Just open the door on the side, unplug the cables from the drive, pinch the two clips on the front of the case, and slide the drive out.

The 3 1/2 drive bays are really nice too. You clip and unclip them from the chassis so you don't have to open both sides of the case to screw in a new drive. Just open the one side door, undo a latch, and pull the drive mounting out. Unscrew your old drive, screw in the new one, put the mounting chassis back in the case.

The 1040 is a great case and the PSU is a very good one also. You will not be dissappointed with your purchase. Get yourself some some good 80mm fans and a controller to set the noise/cooling level to your liking. Oh and by the way, Lian-Li = overpriced and over-rated, you made a great choice,

Also, you can run this case through a wood chipper and it won't have but a scratch on it............

I have the Antec SX1040BII Performance II Series case. Got it a little over a year ago and have really enjoyed it. It has tons of room and great air flow. Noise would be my biggest complaint about the case. I replaced the standard 80 mm fans in the back of the case with some quieter varieties. The standard 400 Watt PS is really good and will allow you to build a very robust system. Oh, I had to invest in an extra long IDE ribbon cable for my DVD ROM and CD RW drives because of the size of the case. Like everyone else said, it is heavy, well-built case.

I have the SX-1040 (pre-Performance Series). Love the case- very sturdy, easy to work inside of. The rails make it really easy to install drives. The removable 3.5" drive cages is a nice feature as well.

I replaced all of the standard fans- I have 25dB fans x4- 2 intake, 2 exhaust. Originally, this setup sounded like a vacuum cleaner, but I recently cut out all of the sheetmetal fan grilles- man what a difference! The system is much quieter now! Now I think the northbridge fan is the loudest thing in the case.

Also, I love how cool my system runs- the system idles at just above ambient according to the hardware monitors.
