I just bought the C40UX for $50 from Compusa and am wondering if I made a grave mistake. I've printed out two black test pages and already on the electronic ink level monitor I can see it's dropped a tiny bit. it looks like I won't get more than 100 pages per cartridge. Since they are $17/piece that is $.17/page. Is this normal for printers? Honestly I haven't owned one in years...I suppose I'll try one of those refill packs. Epson recommends against them of course but now I know how they make their money.

Hey Skoorb,

I've never heard of that model # Epson, but then again, I'm not an Epson guru or anything. I have the 740, which is/was a pretty popular lower-level Epson color printer. It does go thru ink fairly quickly, but unless i'm printing something that absolutely has to be color (photo paper/Powerpoint presentations/etc) I leave it at black and white.

I print maybe three or four B&W pages per week, so that's 12-16 pages per month. A black cartridge will last me about 5-6 months (I'm going by memory here) so that's...Um.......*hits Start/Run/Calc* about 80 black pages out of a cart. But, I dunno if we use the same cartridge or not.

My printer takes a Epson S020189 black cartridge. Hope this helps. :)

100 pages doesn't seem to be enough. Unless you are just using a starter pack for ink, which isn't a full thing. My 640 gets way more than 200 pages per cartrigde, maybe 300 or more. I often print out school notes.
