i don't really like the tabs personally. i guess its just cause im not used to them.

but i dont use firefox cause it is so damn slow. IE opens up so much quicker and is just all around faster.

i would use IE any day over firefox, and I do on a daily basis. at most, i'll have like 3 browser windows open typically.

IE will always open faster than anything, it's integrated into windows. Actual browsing will be faster on Opera. Running multiple windows instead of multiple tabs sucks up more memory, and taskbar space.

Tabs aren't even the reason I use Opera, it has a lot more going for it than something that simple.
Sorry to disappoint you, see link I provided above for verification.

Try Opera. It starts much quicker than FF under Windows environment.

i wish alt-tab worked for tabbed browsing. That's the main reason why I don't like using tabs while browsing. I use the keyboard a lot, don't want to use my right wrist as much, since I have tendinitis on the mouse hand.

Control-Tab works - and this should be the way (as Alt Tab is used to switch to other applications and Ctrl-Tab to switch from one window to other in a multidocument application)

If you don't like it, then turn it off.

</thread>

how do u turn em off?
Tools >> Options... >> Tabbed Browsing
Then select your preferences.

Don't mind the anal people here, however it would help if you read the man page.

My favorite browser is FF and then Opera for its tabbed features over that of plane jane IE.

well its much easier to be nice, rather than being an a$$ like nik is...

hmm...now that you mention it, I have to strain my brain to force myself to use cntrl-tab lol.

alt-tab is like automatic, as if I want to use my brain to move my arm. It's almost an extention of my brain rofl. I do that when reading too. When I'm reading and I Want to go to the previous page or something, in my head, the first thing that comes to mind is "alt-tab.." oh wait...

Also, when I'm reading, when I want to find a word, I go "cntrl-F.." "ARG I can't w/this book phokking.."

I don't use tabs either...never saw the point. I already have tabs on something called the windows task bar that I've been ALT-TAB ing through for years.

I'm currently running FF, Flock, Opera & IE on my Win2K Semperon @ 1672 mhz with 512 megs and Opera seemed to be the quickest at cold start and loading pages.

My aged 500 mhz Celeron with 382 megs Win2K box also run Opera quicker than FF & IE.

My conclusion is not scientific, but through my daily use and preferences. Maybe one day Anantech would do a comprehensive test on the latest hardware and put the debate to rest. FF still is my primary browser since Phoenix beta 0.1, however I'm currently spending more time with Opera 8.5 because it is now free with out ad banner.

IE vs. the world: six Web browsers compared

Browser comparison. IE6 verses Netscape 8 verses Opera 8 verses Firefox 1.0.4.

hey, if IE7 supports plug in the way FF did, and people would develop them, and if IE manages resources better than FF. its back to IE for me.

the latest firefox = frequent crashes + resource hog (400mb for firefox.exe? only 2 firefox windows w/ no tabs open!)
