i love speed, which is why i like roadbiking (no compact cranks here) and have almost no interest in mountainbiking
 
I don't mind being co-driver to someone going fast.
I do mind it, when they're going fast, and displaying a lack of capability/attention, such as when I sat beside my sister, the car in front hits the brakes and I see her foot still on the gas by the time I turn my head to check 😀

Basically, it's not speed or lack of control that would worry me, it's evident danger to which the driver does not react, where I get a slight tingle of irritation.

Depends on the driver. My sister is unsafe at any speed mostly because of cell phone distractions. A friend with some driving credentials can go as fast as he likes and I will usually egg him on.
 
my four year old triplets love driving fast but mom gets pissed at me when I let them drive their carts.

She made me get rid of the Jr Dragster sadly.


Teaching them to ride the YSR50 soon when they get better at riding their bikes without training wheels.

Actually it's the inertia that kills you. If you could accelerate to a rate high enough as to a deceleration that kills you, it would kill you just as good.
 
It's not so much the feeling of speed, but the feeling of making good time. I never gave a shit about racing or going fast for the pure exhilaration of it, but I like getting places quickly.
 
My wife is like that. Hey sweetheart, I don't suddenly get into accidents when you aren't here to warn me about that thing I saw 5 seconds before you did.

Maybe you are a woman trapped in a man's body?

i had my bike at 140mph this past weekend (track days ftw) and felt perfectly comfortable.

on the other hand, when riding passenger with friends at autocross, i still felt uneasy because i wasn't in control. they are great drivers, and far more capable than i am, but i still felt weird. which is how i know it's the lack of control, not the speed 🙂

100+ on a bike, nothing like it! I think there is definitely a scare factor when someone else is doing the driving.
 
I don't think it's fear of speed, it's fear being wreckless in a car that can go anywhere and kill you. How do you feel about roller coasters? I have no problems with those but I have the same feeling as you do when people get a little loose with their driving. I have one friend who floors his truck during icy conditions to clear the snow out of his tires, and my asshole puckers up every time he does it. I won't drive with him in the winter anymore.
