I hate writing with them. Class sucked ass yesterday when all I had was a pencil. Good thing I brought a pen with me today!

I prefer writing with mechanical pencils, but if a standard pencil is my only choice, I'd rather write with pen.

I love pencils. If I could only have one thing to write with it would be a bog standard wooden pencil.

HATE THEM! LOATHE THEM! I can't stand the smell and feel of them, and can stand the sensation when actually writing with them, particularly if you get the lead down to the point where you are hitting paper with the surrounding pencil wood.

Pencils rock. Those pentel mechanical ones are my scribe of choice for work. When I'm doing any sort of wood work or construction stuff the big fatty ones you get from lumber and block yards are indespensible. Try writing dimensions or cut marks on a 8" cinder block with a pen.

That's the only time I have ever wanted a pencil

i usually use mechanical pencils as a preference, but a good pencil is a good utensil as well. i am forced to use pens for a lot of my work (final product and such) but i use pencils for all the design work and layouts. i also prefer drawing in pencil, and have a wide selection of weights and colors to choose from at home. i rarely draw in ink anymore.

Other things that suck about pens? Don't like writing when it's cold. Pencils never complain.

They don't like writing on angles. A pencil doesn't care.

Sometimes you have to scribble all over the paper before you free up the roller ball and ink start flowing. A pencil is always ready roll.

Don't you have to sharpen pencils?

You can tell at a glance whether a pencil will write or not. If it won't, it can be fixed in 15 seconds with a pocket knife.

If you aren't using a Ticonderoga then I could understand why you would be unhappy with a standard pencil. Any other standard pencil sucks compared to a Ticonderoga.

For mechanical pencils I love my Pentel A315A.

i can write faster with a regular pencil then i can with a pen, therefore when i am on the phone and someone is giving me directions to write down or a long code number i can do it faster with a pencil.

Haven't used a wooden pencil since elementary school. Mechanical pencils are all I use now.

I remember back then my parents would buy those cheap china wooden pencils. They suck to write with and the erasers would never erase but they were great for pencil fights.

Ghetto pencils have those erasers that are rock solid and do nothing but smudge and make ridiculous pink streaks.

Ballpoint pens are the worst things in the universe for writing, I would prefer dipping a quill over those rags

This (plus an Eberhard-Faber pink eraser).

I use mechanical pencils for most writing. Unfortunately, sometimes I even forget to bring a pen to a meeting, and I become that guy that signs the attendance sheet in pencil. :p

When I use a pen, it's usually a Pilot or Sharpie (they make pens now! :)) fine pen.

EDIT:

As for wooden pencils, the only time I'll ever use one is in art.

Nope. I like old-school pencils. Pens often don't write, mechanical devices usually have lead that is so thin it breaks before I write my first letter (I have a heavy writing style). Pencils just work. You just have to learn to write when pencils aren't sharp. But I figured that out in elementary school and it has never held me back since.
