Anyone else had problems with DirectX 8?

I upgraded to DirectX 8 a few days ago and have been having HORRENDOUS problems with various applications ever since. IE crashses all the time now (v5.5), I get Fatal Exceptions and General Protection Faults regularly and some of my games no longer work. All this with the very latest sound and video drivers. What really pissed me off is that you can't uninstall DirectX 8 as they made this version part of the OS and you can only get rid of it by reinstalling the OS. Anyone else had these problems?

Can anyone get Sacrifice to work with DirectX 8?

There is a utility around for removing DX8. Do some searches. Or try Link to proggy:http://www.ebrink.com/dxun/index.html
