Anyone else going back to a CRT?

I'm writing this from a PC onto which I've plugged back a Iiyama VMPro 450 - I'm selling my N80 to a friend. It's not like I need the room at home, and I plan to buy a 32" Plasma screen (seriously dropping in price recently, you noticed?) for the living room to hook up the PC there.

Sure, it's slightly fuzzier, but the increased brightness and immediate response is more of a boon, I feel.

I'm also not too happy with the AOC LM-500's I bought for my games PC's - extended gaming sessions make everyone feel slightly queasy, it's apparent now. Unfortunately since I packed 4 PC's into a near broom cupboard space, I've no choices but to stay LCD - but perhaps I can sell these and upgrade to better units.

I just wanted to know if this was my idisyncracy or if other people felt the same after a while of using an LCD panel as their main unit...





 
I'm confused. You get queasy with extended sessions with a LCD screen? That defies any and all logic I can come up with.

Of course, I've never been able to afford a flat panel monitor, so I have very little experience with them.
 
If I had a good LCD (Samsung, Planar, SGI) I would never go back to a CRT, there are no reasons to.
 
well, it is true the LCD monitors have lower refresh-rate that might give you image trailing for high-speed gaming, but causes one to feel queasy? please explain.

Thank goodness I don't go a lot of gaming, no time and having a GF2MX doesn't help matters.
 
I went back to a CRT mainly for gaming. I had a 17" CRT, went to a 15.7" LCD (same size as the old 17"), then started playing games on my friends 19" CRT. 2 weeks later I had sold the 15.7 and purchased a 19" trinitron

Yeah - it's hard to describe, but the nearest feeling is like seasickness, after a long period of gaming. It's especially apparent after First Person games like UT.
It doesn't happen after a session on a CRT screen - but your eyes do feel tired. I suppose it's gain something, lose something...
 
I guess that's the low refresh rate catching up on you. But, yeah, I agree with others, if you're doing any sort of gaming (no, Minesweeper doesn't cound.. 😉), it's better to go with a CRT.
 
Beh. I've dabbled with an LCD and didn't find anything too interesting with it...I gave it to my dad and went back to using my old 19" CRT
 
I spent spring break with a crt.
Its always nice to come back to school and see my planar on dvi.... spending time away from it makes me see how sharp it is.
and yes, it works well for gaming.
 
Well I suppose a better question would be:

Anyone going back to a GOOD CRT?

How do Samsung 900NF, 1200NF, Sony G520, the high-end 24" models compare to some nice, high-end LCDs of similar price range?
$1000~$2500

Perhaps people are comparing really old CRT monitors with a brand new LCD?
 
What...and get exposed to all that particle emission again?? No thanks. And the focus and convergence is way better on the flat panel. But I hear there's a flat/thin cold cathode display around he corner that's going to be the next hot desktop display.

Funny you mention GF2MX, I have this card installed in my PC as well, and I always think my PC is a gaming machine😎

Depends, comparing by price the CRT will always win. Comparing high end to high end, the LCD will always win. Sucks though LCD prices stopped dropping 🙁

Example, a $2000 to of the line 24" CRT will always beat those $2000 19" LCDs. However if you compare a 24" LCD to a 24" CRT, the LCD will be better, albeit for $4000 more...
 
I've worked with a few LCDs and I don't like them. Many games I've played aren't at the native LCD resolution. So the graphics look alright but the game text in unreadable. I won't buy an LCD if I can't read my games. Plus they are too dim, and (although this is improving) you still need to sit basically in front of the screen for a good picture. LCDs have a much higher failure rate with my friends and family (and I've heard the same is nationally but I don't have any recent data). LCDs cost more or you are forced into a smaller screen space (when comparing similar priced models) making using it from a distance much more difficult. I never move the monitor so weight is meaningless to me. So for me, it is LCD 0 - CRT 5.
 
the Sony 24" looks DAM nice!

And so does does that 22" BEMOTH IBM dispaly for aobut $6k wasn't it? If money was no object I'd take the IBM!
