Anyone else getting pumped about the PSP?

I'm getting amped about the PSP, especially since I don't even have a portable mp3 player. My only gripes about it are no internet browser and that it can't play divx files. Other than that, its money.

Take a look at Tiger Woods screen shot comparisons.

can dvd burners, like my NEC 3500 burn mini-dvds? how many gigs are minis?

And I agree with you. After searching the internet, I guess that web browsing and other PDA like functionality will be added.

Hopefully someone can figure out how to hack it so we can run emulators and divx on it.

I think the battery life is about 5 hours... so yes, it's somewhat bad. Not as bad as most laptops, though.

I think he's just saying that we probably shouldn't base our decisions solely on which system has better graphics. Right now, my roommates and I are playing tons of games on my old SNES after I hooked up a Super Wildcard. We have two GCs (one modded) and a modded PS2 available, but the SNES just seems more appealing to us because the games were so damn good.

makes sense. The main thing going for the psp right now is the graphics though. Needed to defend them ;)

What does a modded GC allow?

its all about the software. even pretty games can be boring [cough doom3 cough]. comparing two screenshots doesn't exactly convince me which handheld will be a better value. yay more ps1 remakes! :disgust:

Looks good, however there are problems with those shots, most notably in resolution. The DS has a far lower resolution than the PSP, but yet those screenshots are very similar in size.... Not to mention that first gen DS games are pretty rough graphically, because from what I've read, Nintendo had a rather rushed time between the DS product announcement and shipping.

However, I'm not going to argue that the PSP doesn't have better graphics than the DS - clearly it does. But, there are many more things than gfx, especially in a portable system.

It's not really modded in the same sense as the PS2. We just added a switch that lets us switch between Japanese and American "modes" so we can play import games too.

No, wrong.

The discs are 1.8GB capacity, and are actually SMALLER than a mini DVD or CD.
That plus they are specially encrypted, and reside in a plastic housing for UMD format...

Ive had my psp for about a week now. Pretty good-looking piece of hardware, although I got SCREWED by getting a bad copy of Ridge Racers, the system cant read the disc. Have to wait til monday to talk with Lik Sang (china is shut down for chinese new year :()

Although I have a DS too which i got on launch day and I love it to death as well :)

ok sorry :)

pretty crappy that PSP uses disc media anyway...does a number on battery life.

Nintendo's got it right with solid-state. No load times, and much less power consumption

I believe they go up to 128 or 256 Mb right now, but are scalable up to 1Gb at least theyve said.

Didn't Sony already prove that graphics don't matter? TWICE? Considering both the PSX and PS2 are clearly inferior to their competition in the particular aspect, it seems the Sony fans are reversing their attitudes, throwing their "its the fun games that count, not graphics" argument asside rather quickly.

Granted that I've yet to play a game where the touch screen made the game incredibly fun, in some cases the touch screen wasn't really used. It'll be interesting to see if Sony can gain any significant ground on Nintendo.
