If you are paid Dec 31 or Jan 1, it probably makes no difference at all to you personally. But, it means that you have to pay taxes on that paycheck one year earlier. Thus, you should be quite unhappy about this event. There is no way that I'd be celebrating paying taxes a year earlier on a paycheck.

I get paid monthly, which sucks in every conceivable way. Especially if there is an error and you have to wait two full months without a paycheck and when you finally get your double paycheck, they withhold tripple the taxes due to the accounting formulas that they use. But, assuming the paychecks are accurate, February is the bonus month. Only 90% of the non-fixed expenses but 100% of the full paycheck. Except for leap years, then February really isn't much different.

For OP's original pay schedule, 2009 was supposed to be a 27 paycheck year. There would have been 2 checks in January, July, and December. All your company has done is change January 2009 from a 3 paycheck month to a 2 paycheck month and December 2008 from 2 to 3. The short-term effects are negligible. Long-term, you may see the tax on that extra paycheck a year earlier if you're due a rebate, but that's only a negligible benefit as well.

I don't get it... it is the same pay regardless of what date you get it... Every 2 weeks...

I get paid every 2 weeks too, although I get quite a few extra checks per year for reimbursements and moving checks (they are extra 2-week pay checks). I've received at least 27 checks the past 2 years and I will not be paid on 12/31/08.

We get pay our 2weeks paycheck every other Thursday, and we just got paid today, and the next one is on the 18th, and then the following one is on 1/1/2009, because 1/1 is a holiday, so my company will pay us on the 12/31/08 instead. So we are in fact getting pay 27 paychecks this year. I?ve already done the math, so don?t try to tell me I am wrong. We are still getting pay 26 paychecks next year, and each paycheck is the annual salary amount / 26.

what difference does it make?

I had three-paycheck months in May and October this year. Haven't checked next year yet.

At my old job, and at my wife's current job, they pay twice a month, 1st and 15th. I liked that much better. Every two weeks makes it a pain to keep track.
