I don't know if I spelt nauseaus right.. anyway

I've been gyming it up in the mornings before going to work and on saturdays.. after lifting for a little while I start to feel sick in the stomach and I eventually have to stop pumping cause I might throw up.
Is this normal?
I eat before going.. I make rocky juice.. two raw eggs, a banana, a kiwi, strawberries if I have em, milk and O.J ... other mushable fruit if i have it .. I try to eat something too, but I'm usually in a rush to get out of the house before 6:00 am ..
if I eat it's cereal or a sandwich.
I eat after working out and for the rest of the day.

So, anyone else have this? I'm thinking that after I get tougher it'll go away, but so far it's not. Maybe i need more sleep?

Sleep helps. Maybe you are working out too quick after eating. Try eating less or earlier and eating more when you finish. Also, you may be pushing yourself too hard.

Pushing myself too hard? Nonsense
I did quads this morning, followed by hamstrings, followed by calves ... by the second set of hamstrings I was feeling the illness. I do push hard, but what's the point of working out if you're _not_ gonna push hard? I don't go to the gym to nap on the mats.

Sounds like you need more protein in your preworkout meal. 2 eggs and a cup of milk is only about 20 grams. Also, try using a sport drink or the like during your workout to keep your sugar levels good.
EDIT:
Btw, I don't get nauseaus when lifting, but sometimes I get hungry, depending on how well I'd eaten that day.

Oh man, i'm that guy you see making trips to the water fountain inbetween almost every set. My sugar levels should be good on account of all the fruit I'm eating. I did only start recently, I've been going casually for a couple of months now, but only for this past week have I been there first thing in the morning.
Maybe gatorade will help me?
Don't you take in protein _after_ a workout?

You want more carbs after a workout. they digest faster, so they get right in to replenish your spent glycogen stores in your muscles and liver. You should of course take protein in all day, but immediately aftera workout will slw your digestion, and thereby impede upon your ability to grow muscle effectively.

I never eat before workin' out, I just down a couple of energy gels and hydrate to prevent cramping. I find only a very light workout is conducive to aiding digestion where as a hard session would put me in the same position as yourself. Everyone has to learn their own body's bio-rythms as not everyone's are the same. Some people can gorge and have a great session, some like ourselves cannot. During the many years I trained in martial arts with others in formal settings I found most of the warm ups and workouts to be counter-productive to my particular bio-rythms and strengths so by using the routine that my body prefers my workouts are more enjoyable and effective. Listen to your body it's talkin' to you ;)

I take protein before a workout so that it starts to digest once the workout is done.

Anyway you could try cutting back on food consumption prior to weights. When i work out in the mornings it's only on a scoop of protein powder (100 calories) and nothing more.

the few times in my life I've gotten really stomach sick from weights were entirely caused by going either too hard or too long. Throw in 20 sets in an hour and I'll want to puke. Especially if you're really in a rush and doing say chest then biceps in between sets and then back to chest so that you essentially have no rest time. The worst I ever got was a full body workout in about 60 min with no rests and I swore I was about to puke. Leave more time between sets or don't do so many sets.

The only time I get nauseaus during/after a workout is when I do a killer leg workout. For instance, if I do sets of 3-5 sets of 225 for 20-25 reps, I'll get real nauseaus for the last couple of sets and then feel like absolute crap for about an hour after. I've found that if I start drinking a bottle of juice (like V8-Splash) 15 minutes or so BEFORE I start the high rep stuff, I feel much better.

Truth is though that my problem is only half because of high reps and half because I'm really out of shape. Need to do more aerobic work.

See, I'm not really into synthetic nutrition.. I was thinking that it might be too early, but it happens no matter what time of day I go. I'm thinking that if I listen to my body I'll be napping on the mat in no time... isn't it, 'no pain, no gain'?
I'm just hoping that this goes away after a while, what're the chances of that happening? I mean, I have more time to pump in the morning, I usually have to stop on account of feeling ill, so I hit the shower earlier than I really have to.

ahh.. the cardio stuff, forgot to mention that I don't do any cardio :(

I can't do it in the morning, it's too hard and I burn too much energy leaving me nothing to lift with. The weather is warming up and I should be biking daily once it gets nice enough... maybe if I get healther cardio-wise, i'll feel better when I pump.

Uh... usually three or four sets, sometimes five, depends.
If I'm doing the shoulder press I can't last more than three sets, quads this morning I did 4 for example. In between sets I get about 2 or maybe 3 minutes of rest which is usually spent walking and stretching whatever muscle I was doing. Trips the drinkiing fountain between sets are normal.

Hmm, well that doesn't sound like overdoing it. I haven't gotten sick from weights in years but then my weight workouts now are generally about 30-40 min and since I cut down from the insane number of sets I used to do it's better. I can't remember if I still get a bit off doing legs, cause I don't do them so hard anymore. I hates them!

You will to an extent, but denying your body's feedback is a big mistake IMO.

are you one of those huge guys that walks around on fairy legs? Wear tights? :)
j/k

I'm a pretty small guy, I want to be huge. I want tree trunks and bowling balls. My plans for the summer include pumping and spending lots of time at the beach kicking over sandcastles.

My guess is you're mistaking hunger pangs for nausea because you're moving around too much with that liquid in your stomach. Try eating solid foods only in the morning. wheat toast, peanut butter, turkey sandwich, etc. I think that the protein shake you're drinking is too easy to digest and isn't sitting in your body long enough to keep it from being hungry. You're not worried so much about digestion before or during, it's not like you're running a race. If you're just lifting, having heavy foods in you won't hamper your progress as long as they're still giving you the sugars you need to help your blood carry O2 to your muscles. But bending over and moving around and squatting etc is rolling that loose shake around in your stomach and it's probably giving you the nausea/hunger feeling that makes you think you want to vomit. I used to get it all the time. Eat less at night, or much much earlier. You'll wake up in the morning less hungry, can eat some solid food, and should be able to pack yourself up with good dietary food after. Eating good food througout the day is going to be better fuel than slamming eggs and fruit 20 min before. Your body won't have time to turn that into the stuff your body needs quick enough to have an effect on your workout. If you're short on energy, eat better in general, or try a power gel in the morning for the quick fix. I'd also cut down on the water. If you think you need it, just get your mouth wet and spit it back out. Again, loose liquids in the stomach during periods of high movement will only slosh around. I'll probably get flamed for telling you to cut the water, but hydration isn't drinking water only when working out, just like dehydration won't occur after a rigorous 90 minute workout. Drink a gallon of water throughout the day, but not in the morning before your workout, and I think it'll help. Watch a marathoner or triathelete...most take water handouts only to get their mouth wet or to gain back a little sweat. If you're properly hydrated (which takes 3 days at a minimum), you won't need the water DURING a race or workout so much as after.

that sounds like great advice, thank you.
I drink the rocky juice like about an hour before the workout. I live uptown, the gym is downtown, where I work. I take the subway.

if i eat too much before workouts, then i'll feel as if i'm going to hurl, otherwise i'm ok.
two raw eggs

or follow the Canadian policy and don't waste money on a defense budget, instead make your neighboors defend you, then when they use the same forces you depend on in a battle which makes the world safer for them as well, complain like a little child.

smp
Nice bit of rhetoric you tool.
Who has the U.S ever defended us from? The only country to ever attack Canada was the fvcking U.S you donkey. We don't piss people off like you do, so we don't exactly have any 'natural' enemies.

Alistar7

I'm sorry you cant tell the difference between rhetoric and fact, perhaps you should take a fresh look at the state of your military. Yes your defense is ENTIRELY up to the US, you count on that when you slash your military budgets to pay for social programs. Granted you have no "enemies", however terrorist attacks that might occur in NYC could EASILY reach Canada, do yuo think chemical or biological weapons are going to respect your border???? LOL

excuse me I didn't hear your respnse...

I guess ten minutes isnt enough to explain how it would be impossible for chemical or biological weapons released into the US COULD NOT POSSIBLY AFFECT Canada in any way. Of course you have the ability to seal off your portion of the atmosphere and all ground water. IS THAT YOUR MASTER PLAN? lol

exactly, run your mouth, say something stupid, get called to the mat on it, then RUN, boy, can't tell YOU'RE Canadian, lol, worthless, spineless bastard, don't worry we will keep spending all that money, we will protect you even thouhg your recent actions clearly don't deserve our protection...

That was his fantastic repsonse, I won't bother tracking you through ATOT as you make moronic statements and then run, but you're a joke and the next thread I cross you in I will make sure I run you OFF AGAIN.....

it's probably those two raw eggs man... that doesn't sound too healthy.

If i hit the gym in the morning i usually have a couple COOKED eggs, or a bowl of plain Oatmeal (mad complex carbs). I don't know about you, but having too much in your stomach while working out never makes me feels good. you can't be digesting and straining yourself at the same time. Try just to have a small energy power or small protien shake.
