Anyone else frustrated by "no cat" apartments?

Yes. Hairless cats will do anything for warmth.

It may have more to do with the fact that many people with cats let them roam freely outside. The animals then pee and crap all over the place and don't get me started about sitting and walking on people's cars in the parking lot.

In most cases, when a dog goes outside the owner is monitoring the animal and cleaning up after it.

Of course, it could also be as simple as the apartment manager being allergic to them.

Personally, if I had an apartment complex I would simply require the same thing for both dogs and cats. They would have to be fixed and chipped and they would not be allowed to roam freely around the complex. In other words, no "outdoor" cats would be allowed.

You mean they spend half their day spreading nasty cat spit all over their bodies, so that whatever they touch gets a foul does of feline saliva. They aren't "cleaning" themsleves! They are making sure you touch their spit!!

Ahaha it's only nasty if you're allergic to it. It's not like dog spit either. After dogs clean themselves, you can feel this grimey stuff after you pet them and they smell nasty. Cats, you can never wash them and after you pet them, your hands will still feel really clean, and they actually smell pretty fresh.

I'm very surprised by all the cat hate here! It sounds like lots of experiences must have been with horrible owners. As any animal they will resort to awful things if you treat them awfully.. I'm sure if I didn't give my cat food he would hunt for it (occassionaly he tries to drink water from weird places if I didn't realize his waterbowl got low) and he would probably poop and piss everywhere if I didn't give him a litterbox. No different for a dog!

However my cat is very clean, and I've owned many cats over the years. There's really no "training" for a cat- they instinctively know how to use a litter box. The only thing I've trained him to do is not go up on the counter and tear up the furniture, and that took a couple months and a couple couch covers. I guarantee you can not smell "cat" in my home unless it's within a couple minutes of him using his litter box, which I keep near window to air out quickly. My shit stinks too when I use the toilet. Puking only happens if you change their diet, overfeed them, or they have some kind of intestinal problems. Hairballs are avoidable if you groom your cat or if you get a breed that has short hair.

I'll go on multiple day trips and set up his autofeeder and when I come back everything is just as I left it. And I think this is the same for any well kept, fixed cat. There really is little maintenance involved. He lets me know when someone pulls up to the driveway, he will chase after any intruding pests or bugs, and he's just a fun little dude. If I ever am a landlord, there's no way in fucking hell I'd ever let cats in my property. I'd let dogs in in a heartbeat though.

I'd have a "no cats," "no dogs," and "no kids" policy.

dogs can be just as nasty, it depends on the owner. a properly house trained cat or dog that gets bathed once in a while...especially dogs. are often clean animals.
But you actually have to clean your house more than once a month/year, preferably daily vacumming..etc and clean up/bathe..etc.
stuff you do more often when you have any pet. but some are lazy and is why their house stinks

I've lived in apartments for quite some time and have had a cat for the last 4 years. My cat has never once used the bathroom outside her litter box, and the only things she scratches are my arms and an old clothes hamper. When I move out my apartment will be cleaner then when I moved it. Cats aren't the problem, lazy ass owners who don't give a fuck are the problem.
