Anyone else feel unsatisfied with mobo selection?

So am I the only one that just can't find a mobo that has everything I want? This is a bit of a rant.

ASUS finally released the a8n32 a while back and this board was almost ideal for me because I really wanted a board with nf4 sli x16... but the layout was retarded, furthermore the thermal pipe solution meant it didn't work with the new lian-li cases which i had planned to use (that's only minor though), and possibly more important: even if i wanted it, the stock is so awful i wouldn't have much of a chance of getting one. and then there was all this talk about it destroying cpus though i don't know if that was just rumors. anyway that layout pretty much ruined the board for me, i need to be able to fit a sizeable sound card in there which will be irritating if not impossible.

DFI's look good, except i don't know who the hell came up with the whole lan party motif, it really turns me off from even looking at them, though with the selection i've got now it feels like there's not many other choices. even so DFI still hasn't released a damn x16 board... GRRR!!!

Finally Gigabyte released that one with the intel chipset that could take both crossfire and sli (awesome because ati's next gen should be competitive), that and it used the windtunnel cooling which means i could have used it in my case, and it had the x16 going on... and space for two extra graphic cards if i ever wanted to, though i probably wouldn't. but yeah then i'd have to switch to pentium procs, the board is nice but not that nice.

I just wish that some decent mobo company would release something along the lines of the a8n32 with a practical layout, option of either windtunnel or thermal pipe cooling, with the nf4 sli x16 going on. why can't they just do it?!!!

end of rant.

Why not remove the heatpipe and use a pair of swiftie MCX159's........ Probably be a huge improvement in cooling and ya can flip board anyway you like.......

I dont like how DFI made the SLI-DR with problems and made the Expert to fix them, costing 200 bucks..

I?ve been having similar problems finding one that suits what I?m looking for to replace the board I have now. Maybe I?m just picky, but I have yet to find a board that has all of these things:

NF4 Ultra or SLI?don?t need sli but am willing to spend a couple bucks for a better board

Good Overclocker

Passive NB, or a NB cooler that can be replaced without interfering with the video card
(eliminates DFI?or at least till I see how the Expert turns out)

Expansion slot layout that lets me use a double slot video cards and 2 pci cards

Sensible layout of ide and power connectors (eliminates Epox)

The Asus Sli Premium looks nice, but it?s a bit out of my price range. Oh well, wont be upgrading for a bit anyway

I want to get the premium, but again the heatpipe issue with my case...

Anyone know what the difference between the premium and deluxe is? Apart from the heat pipes?

I had a really hard time deciding which one to get. The Asus A8N SLI Premium is what I went with as it seemed to be the best option at the time, but I'm not very happy with it.

At this point, I'm pretty much stuck.

MSI's new K8N Diamond Plus looks pretty tasty though.

Yeah, I was pretty displeased with the selection. I looked at ABIT, DFI, MSI, and ASUS.

They all have/had problems - primarily with the Fans get real noisy/failing, or Caps in the wrong place, or were extremely finicky with Memory.

The Premuims only real drawbacks were the VCore voltage settings (didn't go as high as others) and the price.

Since I don't really plan to doing any extreme OC'ing I went for the Premium when I caught it on sale.

Overall I'm pretty pleased with this board. It's been rock solid so far.

I was looking for a long time for a mobo and the combo deal offered by EVGA (EVGA 7800GT with EVGA/Jetway mobo) "forced" my choice (i.e. considering the mobo value to be ~$100, it made the evga 7800GTt valued at ~$259).

I went for the best "bang 4 buck" option verses going with a "name brand" mobo company. I figured I'd take a chance with EVGA especially since the Jetway mobo got a great review by AT.

So far, I haven't been dissappointed and am very happy with the stability and performance of my setup.

I'm actually considering buying this combo again.

The Gigabyte boards are a good layout, and teh newer boards have the passive heatsink on the NB. Even tho they dont OC well, if u fvck the OC the dual BIOS kicks in. Rock solid!!

I would really like to see some more hi-end ATI based solutions. I am tired of this one horse race :D

Same here...I waited for a couple of months for the Sapphire Pure, but it didn't show up.

its odd anymore its like,...all these motherboard manufacturer's seem like they are just slapping things wherever they fit real quick,....so its a matter of what layout you dislike the least,..lol

asus-nice placement on the ez plug noob's!,...overpriced

abit-nice placement of the floppy connector and the additional power plug under the lasi pci slot morons!

msi-hmm,..very nice layout i cant bitch about much on it except that with the slix16 chipset they are following asus' "ezplug" area,..msi does much better when they do thier own thing,...

epox-why are they still puttin the mainboard power connector right in front of the usb ports?,...and remind me of a summer vegetable platter

gigabyte-excellent layout!,..unpredictable performance from model to model

dfi-hmm,..not much to bitch about except price,..good connector layout,..well thought out obviously,....picky dimms for memory
