Listen, I love Apple as much as the next guy. I use a Mac, I refer almost all of my friends to Mac, and when I worked at CompUSA I sold more Macs than the ASC. I think OS-X is the best consumer OS available, no doubt!

That being said, I cannot stand reading MDN's constant zealotry on their website. I can't stand the didactic ramblings of people who recognize absolutely NO wrong-doing on the part of Apple/Steve Jobs/anything. The answer to everything is always "Apple GOOD! Others BAD!"

I'm sick of this specific set of Mac users who constantly look down at anyone who doesn't use a Mac. I'm sick of being lumped in with them because I am also a mac user. I'm sick of this constant elitism and exclusive attitude.

Well, that's my rant.

err...

Um, MDN? But I do know what you are saying.

Do i love my Mac? Yes, absolutely, single best computer decision of my life possibly.

Do I love my iPod? Yes, but I don't think that it is the end all and be all of the PMP world. It plays music well, and that is all I need it to do, and i got it for a decent price. Sure, I could have gotten a Zune for less, or a Zen, or this or a that, but I have a Mac and I wanted compatibility, and IMO, the iPod does have the best interface around.

Do I think that Apple can do no wrong? Absolutely not. They are a group of people, people make mistakes and then usually try to pass the buck. I think that they on average do a better job at not making mistakes, but that is just my opinion, and does not make them infallible.

But anyway, what is MDN? Mac Daily News?

Yeah no idea what MDN or ASC is, but I understand where you're coming from. You have to remember that there are extreme fanboys for anything...Windows, Mac, Linux, Halo, Ford...you name it, they're out there. I love my Macs to death, but I'm not about to go shoving it in people's faces. I know exactly the kind of person you're talking about though and I too hate being categorized. I like Macs and I like Steve Jobs, but they're not perfect. My first MacBook had every problem in the book - overheating, random shutdowns, etc. And the recent $200 pricedrop on the iPhone was just ridiculous, a mere 2 months after release. But they make pretty good stuff. Anyway if you have a problem with a certain group, just stop visiting their website, participating on their forums, visiting their IRC channel, etc.

I agree. Actually I describe myself as a mac user who hates mac users. Not how they think they are better then everyone (not that I like that) but how they refuse to maximize windows and user the right click function, little things like that. "Apple didn't give me 2 buttons on the mouse so I should not use it", just the BS like that.

heh, I stem from being a windows users... and like windowed boxes.. hah. I hate maximizing everything. The only time I do that is possible when I'm trying to write something up. Or obviously, watching a movie

I'm with you RandomLinh, I can't stand maximizing everything, there is no point to it for most websites IMO since almost none are designed for widescreens, or even resolution independence. And I don't think I have ever run into anyone that refused to use contextual menus because their mouse only had one button... weird that you actually have tRaptor

my bad -

MDN = Mac Daily News
ASC = Apple *something* Consultant. The guys that work in Best Buy and CompUSA to sell Apple.

Hehe, I wouldn't go so far as to say that I hate other Mac Users...I just really get sick of the polemics. Unfortunately, there is a contingent of Mac Users who are so amazingly snide, glib and outright condescending that I hate being lumped into them. That being said, I hate Windows "FanBois" as well.

I'm just sick of this whole idea that in order to like something or support something, we need to blind ourselves to its faults. Just not my style!

I read a few Mac sites but only post questions on one. I won't name one site I posted to but I left after more than one reply was just windows bashing instead of replying to what I asked. I don't need zealots. The Mac zealots ruin the experience way too often, reading past their tripe trying to find the real information can be tiring.

One of the reasons I asked more questions on AT and HF was the downright arrogance and elitism on some Apple fan sites. Hell if I wasn't made to feel like a dog simply because I refused to see the "error of my ways" because I wasn't going to give up my windows machines. These people make linux zealots look tame!

I like my Mac. I don't use it for more than games, email, or internet. I find many things that drives me nuts at times. I never ever used it with a one button mouse, sorry but keyboard + mouse combinations are archaic if you can just do it with another button. Even the person who sold me the iMac on ebay told me to get a "windows" mouse.

My only problem on the iMac when it comes "to maximizing" is that you cannot set keyboard preferences based on the application in the forefront. By that I mean I cannot use the F-keys one way while Application A is running and if its not in the forefront default back to them as Apple short cuts.

The thing is that most of the time what is considered a fault is purely personal opinion. Plain text configuration files are a good example, lots of people coming from a non-unix background think it's the stupidest thing ever and can't imagine why we wouldn't prefer a binary configuration database with GUI management tools. But in our (well, most of our) eyes plain text config files are an advantange and any disadvantages like having to know syntax are far outweighed by the other added flexibility.

Not sure if you have tried this but....

In the keyboard preferences you can set application specific keyboard shortcuts. Or you can set universal shortcuts. For example, DVD Player uses Command+0 for Full Screen even though every other funking app on OS X uses Command + F. So I assigned a specific keyboard shortcut, of Command+F, for Full Screen in DVD Player.

I hate MDN due to their annoying pop-under ads that occasionally talked. Man was that annoying. That was about a year ago before I had adblock on firefox installed. But that site never really offered me anything more than any other site. TUAW and Infinite Loop are where I get my apple news from now. Occasionally I'll go to MacUser or MacWorld.
