There are lot of things going on in golf and US Open seems to be the tournament.

1. If Els wins and Tiger places 6th or more, he will replace Tiger as #1 in the world.
2. If Vijay wins and Tiger gets cut, then Vijay will become #1 in the world.
3. Jim is returning early to play US open (had wrist surgery and was off for 6 months). Jim was 2003 US Open Champion.

4. David is returning to Golf after 8 months of vacation (He finally found himself).
5. Garcia is on a roll.
6. Phil finally won a major and has a good chance..

#2 will not happen. #1 could I guess but I really doubt it.

IMO you can forget about Tiger winning another major until he sucks up his pride and gets Butch Harmon back as his coach. His decline can be directly traced to his firing Butch.
Sources have said that Tiger was pissed off about Butch bragging that he was the secret behind Tiger's success.......and it's starting to look like he was.
Of course, getting engaged and not practicing as much probably has something to do with it also, but if your fiancee' looked like Tiger's, chances are you wouldn't practice as much, either.

Poor guy...when I saw the 6 on #4 I figured it was the start of a bad day. He follows it with a 7 on #5, ugh, this could get ugly.

Another bogey on #6

I think Tiger is going to win, but if he doesn't I hope it isn't Phil Mickelson.

and yes, Tiger needs Butch Harmon again

I doubt Tiger will win ( it would be great if he did win), because he's not playing well..

I hate Sergio Garcia (don't know why, but I just want to beat him up, maybe I'm jealous).

I want Els to win or Chadd to win..

Chadd has a very fluid swing..

Ive got Haas.

it would be sweet if he wins.
he's supposed to be ready to shake the champions tour, but instead winning a major in the regular tour. nice. four under (in a round) in a US Open is awesome. hopefully he's playing consistent.

tiger, however, often play bad first round and catch up the next day. is the cut-o-meter on now? this can be really interesting.

Edit: wow, i didn't realize you posted in early in the morning!

Shigeki has a good chance to win. This course seems to fit him.

Either Him or Ernie Els will win I think.

Funk and Goosen shooting 66. Shinnecock has laid down so far in this tournament.

there is no wind.. thats why the scores are so low..

I predict the winning scores to hover around 6-9 under

well with the lead at -6 its seems easy to predict that. Before tiger did it only one other player had been to the -10 number in a US Open. So -9 is a bit high. Those scores will come down. If not then the USGA will flip out and make it impossible next year.

Can anyone name the guy who made it to the -10 number?

I did read the thread and I also read the question and I also just answered the question. Do I have to tell you why I don't follow golf or can I just answer the question?
