Since generals 2 is pretty much dead in the water ive been looking into CoH 2 more and more, for a game that's due to be released in early 2013 info is pretty sparse! Guess relic will leak more stuff closer to release. From what i can tell it all looks good so far, steamworks means no intrusive DRM, the new engine looks good from the screenshots and they aren't changing the CoH formula too much which is great to hear.

From wiki i can tell:

- Has the russians
- Uses steam
- Essence engine 3.0
- Retains company of heros formula

Wish there was more info though... i assume the germans are the other side you can pick, would make sense heh.

Anyone else excited about this?

I really can't wait for this one. I was completely impressed with the first one and its expansions. I really dislike all of the 'pump massive amounts of units as quickly as possible' 'strategy games'. I prefer less units and more thought. I really have no doubt this will be a great game. It has been a long time since I've felt that way about any game.

Would rather see Relic flog their slaves and bring out Dawn of War 3 faster.

But I enjoyed CoH immensely and I am looking forward to picking it up at some point, when I can afford it :)

Oh fuck yes I am. Company of Heroes is probably the best strategy game I've played (yes I have not played them all, fuck off) and this one looks even better. Cannot wait for this mofo to drop.

Patience is not in my nature, and I never ore-order, but for this game, I will make an exception.

I played COH for many hours on multiplayer. The single player campaign was fun, but the multiplayer was what made it the great RTS it was. Minus all the stupid NAT issues with people not being able to connect and the rampant drop hacking going on... the game was great.

Multi player is good, but no matter how much I play it seems I get trounced. I did play some fun multi player against the AI though. What I really meant was I hope they don't turn it into some pay to win game like AOE online. But personally I still prefer single player, especially if it has a good story.

The game has a very high learning curve. You need to understand the maps and take strategic buildings that has good covering fire, and you need to be FAST.

You let those pioneers or engis in the house? Better be prepared for an uphill battle or research grenades/flamethrowers, which will make it slower for you to get that M8 which would be a good counter for those MG42s coming your way. Or would you go down your tech route, and just hope your panzerfausts are good enough to trounce the m8s coming your way? What if the other guy gets BARs instead of light vehicles and goes straight to shermans? Should you vet up your support vehicles so you can deploy paks?

It's a lot of mind games, predicting what the other guy will build and building counters to that BEFORE he comes at you. That and taking vital resources points, especially high fuels to make sure you can get your panther out before he does.

For the axis, one of my favorite tactics is to build 3-4 flame pioneers, support them with MG42 and go down the stormtrooper line so they can shrek any armored vehicles that come your way.

oh and use mines.

Ouch, $99 for the Collectors Edition and you don't even get any media for that price. I am sticking by my pre-order plans at this point, but I really hate the fact that this game will be discounted 6 months after release for half of what it retails for at release.
Steam has me in a frugal mood, but only CoH 2 would make me spend more than I want to.

CoH is tied with the Starcraft series for best RTS ever. I'm not sure if I want to get into the multiplayer for this one as that requires a large time commitment to get decent, but I'll definitely be playing the single player.

The one friend I play COH with is an absolute cheapskate, so this means I will probably have to wait till next year's summer sale...

Yeah, my issue is people dropping or sucking. Sure the AI takes over but that only does so much and doesn't compensate against a competent opponent.

This leaves me at level 6 with about a 1:1 record. No one with a higher level wants to play with me (I've been kicked by level 7s) and I can't win enough games effectively on my own to up my ranking.

More than once I've started new accounts and had the same results. CoH multiplayer was not built for casual play. Either you go hardcore and join a clan or you play with retards.

I'm also very excited about COH 2, the single player campaign was great and I didn't even know there was a multiplayer =0

Despite having a huge backlog of games, I will still buy this game on release, just the regular edition thought.

I hope they will release a COH Pacific campaign as well :D
Been watch a HBO series "The Pacific"

I've been playing CoH since it came out. Still playing with a select group of friends. But I won't preorder (After getting burned by BF3 preorder lies I swore I wouldn't get conned again), and I won't buy until the price drops to around $30. Oh, and yeah the first one or two installements of the soldiers: Heroes of WWII were awesome. Two RTS games, both great, very different visions. If you think CoH requires too much micro, don't bother with the other, try C&C maybe...lol.

I hope it is easy to mod. As for the vanilla game, I'm likely so bad and out of practice I would likely get trounced in online play. The game has no mercy for errors and It makes my blood boil.

I pre-ordered it yesterday, and I almost never pre-order games, but I'm pretty confident I will love the living shit out of this game. I need to start playing the first game more, after getting back into it last summer.

I am. I won't be preodering it, but I will get it eventually. I love the first one, just wish I didn't completely suck in multiplayer. I'm hoping my single player practice gives me enough knowledge to eventually compete online.

I'm concerned they're pushing the pre-orders on this so early. Makes me think THQ is hurting for cash (they are) and will push it out early.

I'm looking forward to seeing how it turns out, however the Soviet setting isn't that appealing to me. I'd rather play a game from the perspective of the Nazis than the Soviets. I'm not even sure there's been a game like that. It's not like the Soviets were better morally than the Nazis in terms of people slaughtered for their ideology so I'm not sure if the Nazis are just the default bad guy in any WWII game now.

I liked one of the Call of Duty's long ago that was from the Soviet perspective, but after that, it's not that great.
