I don't play the latest, greatest games. With rare exception, I wait until the GOTYE is $5 on Steam with all DLC included. Since I'm always a couple years behind with games, but still enjoy the latest hardware, I find that by the time I play a new game (a game that is new to me) it can be played on high-ultra settings above 100fps. Does anyone else do this or am I alone? My primary gaming monitor is still a 144Hz 1080p model, so when I sit down with a 4-year old RTS or an older MMO or shooter or something I can usually VSync at 144. That just never seems possible with any combination of modern hardware and brand new games.
I'm asking because there seems to be an overall vibe on this forum that if GPU Y can't play brand new buggy Game X at Ultra 4K settings, then it's a failure. I like to think of myself as an enthusiast, but not bleeding edge... is that the difference?
