Anyone else continue to drink caffeine in the face of adverse side effects?

Caffeine messes me up. It causes me stomach pains, gives me anxiety, and at worst gives me heart palpitations if I drink too much. But I keep on drinking it. I guess the "up" it gives me is worth the chance of having one of my several reactions once in a while. I quit for several months, but since my GF moved in and brought her Starbucks habit with her, I've started up again.

Anyone else get pwned by caffeine? I didn't use to when I was younger, but at 35 I seem to be getting pwned by more and more stuff these days.

Caffeine is my drug of choice, but I don't have any of those problems. It just makes me pee more often.

Well it is a addictive, but you really should be quitting if you're getting heart palpitations and severe reactions from it. In fact you should be going to a doctor to see if there is anything seriously wrong with you.

Same here. I gave up my Diet Pepsi for CF Diet Pepsi. But when I stop at a gas station, I still grab the caffeinated stuff. So I tried decaf coffee and guess what? I just bought a whole thing of regular coffee.

Oh well. Find a doc who doesn't mind giving RX's for benzos and you are all set.

if i drink too much caffeine, my feet feel like they're glued to the floor when sitting down.
it makes me kind of tense / anxious / nervous.

but that takes about 4-5 cups of coffee.

No. I had a problem with gastric ulcers a few years ago, so I quit drinking coffee. I will still make a cup with our espresso machine about once a month on a Sunday morning, but I don't drink the swill we make in the office each morning.

errr....you just don't know how it works i guess.

you do not try to overdose on coffee. unlike other drugs the effects do not get more enjoyable as you over consume, go over board and you get cautious/sick and jittery quite quickly. just learn not to be a coffee glutton and you'll be fine.

its why its such a safe drug:p pretty much self correcting..or it should be:p

i have a 64 oz thermal mug that i would fill at 5am, hit work and refill it at 10am on "lunch" then work the rest of the day. sometimes id fill it a third time, before switching to mt dew at about 2pm. i worked in a silk screen shop, so i was always active. i cannt drink like that anymore, that was about 100lbs and a decade and a half ago. im lucky to get thru a 20 oz cup of coffee and 32oz of iced tea a day, usually the coffee is only 3 days a week or so. i dont drink anything but water, milk and juice on weekends as well.

I have an RX for xanax and propanolol (beta blocker). I don't use either currently, but they're there if I need em.

One guy who works upstairs from me, I saw him at starbucks the other day. His drink: A venti 5-shot americano. Says he drinks 3 a day. I'm thinking crack or maybe a longer lasting solution like methamphetamine would be cheaper.

I drink a triple Americano in the morning, then about 3 cups of drip during the day, then a double Americano around quitting time. That's only on work days, on weekends I usually just have one, admittedly very large, cup of drip each day.

is it just the caffeine in coffee that bothers you? i can drink caffeinated soda with no issues, but in coffee it can make my heart race too.

It actually is. Soda doesn't seem to have the same effect. And lately it's not so much actual heart palpitations, it's more of just the racing heart. Strange.

I drink 1 coffee in the morning to get me going. The only adverse affect I have is when I run out of coffee for a few days and feel tired the whole time.
