Anyone else catch on: No Anand, No live Apple coverage

Seems like that Macrumors article was spot on with how apple buys the press.

If they know they have a 'journalist' in there back pocket they feed him tons of info, and press coverage, and product.

That with the guy they had in their back pocket gone, so much for access to apple.

He never had "access" to Apple. He figured it out on his own, metaphorically digging through their technical dumpsters. No one might not do that anymore, but honestly we don't need it anymore. Does anyone buy Apple products based on reviews? I don't see why, buying Apple products is a formula now:

Did they release a new product within the last six months? Yes - maybe buy it / No - wait until the next new product comes out.

Was that new product the first version of that product or the first version with a major change? Yes - wait until reversion 2 / No its a V2 - Buy it if you can

Or with Anand now working for Apple it might be viewed as a conflict of interest. There would be those claiming he was shilling for Apple even though he is no longer officially a part of Anandtech.

Apparently it's a damned if you do, damned if you don't situation. But people are stupid that way.

There was a macrumors article that pointed out how apple gives favorable access to certian websites based on how well there products were covered.

IMHO, it seems fairly obvious now that Anand got special treatment because of his flowery apple coverage.

Or maybe it was because Anand has one of the largest and most popular tech review websites on the internet?

I don't own any Apple products and don't plan to own any in the future. That said, I don't like or dislike Apple.

Is it possible your own personal bias is coloring what is "obvious" to you?

so why wasn't there live coverage this year?

So finally Apple gets a little bit closer to Samsung/Android just before they take the next leap, what's there to report? and whatever they report, how fives a duck about it anyways...

What about the me and money costs of flying there and staying at a hotel?

Anand might have ignored those costs and/or paid them himself because he looked at it as a fun thing to do.

AnanfTech is a business, so without him it's necessary to justify the costs now.

I only own an old iPod Classic (RIP iPod 🙁 ) and I'm not biased either way. I don't see a vast conspiracy here.

Nobody buys apple shit because it's good or technically interesting.

People buy apple shit because it's the trendy non-conformist thing to do. Ironic, isn't it?

bullshit

I had only had two choices when I moved from the far superior Palm WebOs. A 4S or a Galaxy S2. I chose the one with the better specs and App Store.

Since then it hasn't paid to switch to an Android. Same reason I never switched from Palm to PocketPC. Once you buy a bunch of apps for a platform you are locked in.

What I find ironic is that this site was built with people who built their own computers in mind, and the owner went to work for the only company which you could never do that with their product line if you wanted to.

On a related note, Apple bought all of you U2's new album! Found out through Daily Mail. None of the other sites I visit had it.

Uh...mostly their shit looks good, works reasonably well, has a vast and deep app ecosystem, and has locked users into a proprietary messaging system (imessage) that ends up socially excluding you if you don't have an iphone.

It has nothing to do about conformity/trendiness anymore.

Funny..I never read a single review on this website. Only ever come to the forums...

What a shame. It's the reviews that made this place, not the forums. I read the reviews here for years before I ever joined the forums, But you're a relative newbie here, so it's not surprising that you don't comprehend the genesis of AT.

If you read the comments on the article someone mentioned this. They didn't have a live blog because Apple was streaming the press event.
