I've been thinking about getting a RAM drive latly there was another thread somewhere about it, looks interesting.

Other than that CPU's/Vid Cards/Mobo's/64-bit All seems really lull. I'd say i started losing interest when the Hammer took SOO long to get out and when SATA kinda bombed.

Well NFS4 unlike you, lol, I do not go out and get 1 Grand worth of hardware in one sitting. Even though I do have a lot of money, I tend to be a compulsive saver. So I do not go out and buy a top of the line p4 3.06 Ghz system with a 9800 pro in one day. So it tends to ease my appetite for buying hardware then to just read about it over and over again.

I can see where you are coming from though. As a web designer for 4 years, I do get burned out designing and learning about new server side enhancements and languages etc.. I use to love to design however it seems to have become a major drag on a daily basis.

I guess I can compare this to a relationship with a woman? lol . Can't live without them...or kill them .

*sigh*

I wish Apple would do something other than try selling a Radeon 9600 with a $3000 and instead make an OS for PC's to use. Heck, if they made on and it was as stable and performed as well as the comparable Apple Computers to my computer, I'd spend $200 on the OS to use. Of course, I'd be dual booting so I could still play games with XP!

My last "upgrade session" cost me ~$500 (2.4C, IC7, 1GB PC3500).

Well although i support the idea, if Apple had to make its OS run on the majority of hardware that Microsoft supports, MacOS would suck too :)

Brandon,
Perhaps you have reached the point in your life where you need a change. Heck, you could always find a little Carolina honey, get married and raise a family....
get a job, buy a house...etc...

hey nfs4.. I feel the same.. In the good old days one would check anandtech, thg and a few more sites and there would be more than a few interesting reviews for us to plow through. Nowadays weeks go by without anything interesting happening!

It's really sad and boring!!

There is however something that lately has become a really wet fantasy of mine... And that is ofcourse the prescott!! Who knows how well it overclocks.. Maybe not much.. maybe ALOT!.. And that's what I am hoping. The Tejas is said to scale all the way up to 10 ghz.. Let's say the prescott makes half of that and it would be totally awesome!! A prescott 3.4ghz@ 300mhz+ fsb = 5.1ghz or more. mmmmh... mmmmmmmhhh.. mmmhhh.. I'm getting hard here!!!
J/k :D.. but.. it would absolutely rock with some good memory and a raptor and a Radeon 9800 pro!

mmmmmmhh 5 ghz..mmmhhh 1 meg cache.. mmmhhh.. I'd beter go now ;)

3 years ago when I made my last PC I was coming to this site all the time. I just could not keep up with the techonology. I do agree, there is nothing so special about the stuff that is out there now...

Except DVD burners for me. I finally got myself a new PC and it has a DVD burner. I have had so much fun backing up my DVD's, and finally taking my old home videos and putting them onto DVD. Being able to send my in-law's movies of the kids 1000 miles away that they can just pop in their DVD player is pretty cool.

For me that I why I upgraded to a new machine. Beyond that though, I do not see anything new on the horizon that would make me want to upgrade any time soon.

After surround sound the only thing left is a 10,000 dollar plasma HD tv!

yes, somewhat bored with the whole thing right now.......not sure why, but I'm just not excited about anything I can see coming down the pipe.

:(

Just go out and do what I did: get a job with a technology company! (I'm currently an engineering intern at HP here in Corvallis, OR) R&D is great stuff...working on technology the consumer won't see for years. Just because the economy is poor doesn't mean that innovation isn't happening. If anything, companies like Intel and HP are "inventing" their way out of the recession...there are truly some AWESOME things going on behind closed doors. But, of course, no great technology is without the wonderful piece of paper called an NDA.

I guess this is actually the feeling I've been getting. I've been trying to think of a worthwhile upgrade to my system but I guess this applies. There isn't anything really worth getting. There are the dvd burners which are getting pretty inexpensive, but its only worthwhile to the people who will utilize them. I don't burn movies or have huge amounts of data that I need to backup, so a dvd burner would be pretty useless. When will the new cpus come out? I'm talking about the amd64

I have to agree it's a lull. And for most of the reasons already posted. How do I know this? I have never waited over a year to build a new rig for the house and this one's been spinning since 11/2001. Good news! I'm collecting components to build a new one! At work, I got a 3.06 early this year, and recently gave the old 1.5 to a friend as a birthday present.

It's hot, hot, hot but the girls here are too so it's all good ;) and us floridaians can testify that any surf is a good thing given we are prone to several month flat spells that aren't even longboardable during the summer. You think it's weak were you are? but hey the water is unusually cool right now and the surf is rideable so it's paradise

Awesome!

I guess there is a lesson here . . . somewhere (for non-surfers) . . . I guess the computer hardware scene isn't so boring rather that we are so spoiled.

Anyway, I'm off to surf (there are 3 footers and the tide will be perfect) :) . . . aloha

The surf here in Va Beach is so weak even skinny little kids on boogie boards can't catch a decent ride. Much less full grown men. :( I miss the west coast in that regard.

Hopefully AMD can crank up the competition in the cpu market soon, but unfortunately, I am not holding my breath. I have a feeling Intel may have finally overwhelmed them with their enormous R+D budget. Maybe another company will challenge Intel in the future (BitBoys????), but again, I doubt it.

Question... I'm not sure if I'm the only one that feels this way, but-- as far as clock speeds go, Intel has AMD beat. But performance per clock cycle is a different matter, am I wrong? The Opteron 3200+ clocked at 2.2GHz competes quite well with Intel's 3.2GHz processor. If you compare Intel's 2.2 with the 3200+, there is a clear winner. Is it just my imagination or no?

It seems that computer hardware is so boring it can't even hold this thread up. How the heck did we get onto the topic of surfing?? ;)
