Ah, hah! I was waiting for someone to reference E.E. Cummings because I stumbled upon a page right before starting this thread (which has exploded, it seems). See this page for debunking the popular myth that he did not capitalize his name nor use punctuation. You learn something every day. :D

By the way, I do not really care all that much how people type unless it becomes a chore to read the lack of punctuation or capital letters often leads to that however i have never understood why people with valid points would fail to post coherently so as to minimize the dilution of their thoughts with poor form maybe someday i'll understand...

;)

YES... I DO DISLIKE IT WHEN PEOPLE DON'T USE ANY CAPITAL LETTERS. ALSO, IMPROPER GRAMMAR, SPELLING, AND PUNCTUATION ARE ANNOYING. HOWEVER, IT IS MUCH MORE ANNOYING TO READ MESSAGES IN WHICH THE LETTERS ARE ALL CAPITALIZED AND IT'S EXTREMELY ANNOYING TO READ MESSAGES THAT MAKE USE OF TOO MUCH HIGHLIGHTING.

Quick factiod.

Did you know studies have shown that people read

ASentenceTypedLikeThis

better than

A SENTENCE TYPED LIKE THIS.

I found that interesting.

Yes, we used to have some mainland Chinese students that stayed with us. While they could read an entire newspaper article pretty easily (slowly), they could not read a single short paragraph in all caps. They often had to go over each word to decipher it.

there was a famous poet who did that as well
his name was e.e. cummings
personally i think hes rather good but many people disagree
maybe they don't like him because he doesnt
use capitalization or punctuation
who knows
i sure don't

i used to write poetry in a stream of conciousness type style and never use any form of punctuation or capitols. but now i just find it easier to type it this way. why bother with caps when youre not applying for a job? who cares? you know what i do hate is when people type way to fast and they leave out words! also this new online lingo bothers me too because it just doesnt sound like proper english...IE...

AMD is SUCK!!!! or
P4 is SUCK!!!! or
AMD OWNS!!!!

i just hate those two in particular.

Nice link, AndrewR, guess you learn something new every day (unless you're konichiwa, who apparently does not read all of the preceding posts in a thread ;))...

spelling and punctuation usually have nothing to do with clarity. rather, people usually can't communicate b/cause they don't know what the heck they are trying to say (ie they lack clarity in their thinking)... i forgot my point *bonk self*

ok, how about this: how many people don't use caps when IMing a friend?

the point is, if you understand each other w/o a problem, there is no problem.
but when you're trying to reach a wider audience, then vernacular (in all it's forms)
is more of an issue.

Capitals are just one more obstacle for those of us that dont type worth a d@mn. Apologies to all who object. Grammer and manners are more important though, dont you think?

Actually, I get annoyed when people type endlessly in all caps. It does bug me when people misspell frequently AND use lowercase, though... dang English classes made me like that. :D Of course, some people might just idolize e.e. cummings and type in lowercase for that reason...
