This whole new overlay area code is buggin the hell outta me. Its annony for me to have to dial 1+the area code+the number to call a house 2 blocks away. I spose there is nothing we can do about it, but it still annony....

You think that is bad...I live in Orlando and for the last year and a half we have had to dial the area code for all local calls. for example, if I want to call my neighbor I must put 407 in front of the number....it stinks!

Count me in as annoyed :disgust:

Why not make the cell phone users dial the 1-847 for the local calls instead of the regular phone customers? jeez!

I couldn't figure out for like 10 minutes why AT&T's dialup was down, until I remembered the phone numbers needed the 847. Oh well, thats life now that everyone has a cell phone or pager. It would be nice if there was a national standard though, right now there is 3 of them. (no area code for local calls, area code, 1 + area code)

I thought you should never dial 1 + area code for a local ten digit call because the equipment gets confused, for lack of a better term, and could hand the call off to the long distance company, who might just be in the mood to bill you for the call.

Am I wrong?

i dont know if you have to dial the 1 first, probably just the area code, at least that is what it is in portland and parts of cleveland

sort of reminds you of the New Springfield episode of The Simpsons
