Anyone else addicted to chap stick?

I started using chap stick last February and now I use it like, every hour. I go through a tube a week. It's not that bad it's just kind of annoying and everyone asks why I use it so much.

If I don't use it, though, my lips feel awful and get all scrunchied-up looking with lines and stuff and get really, really dry, and they feel better if I lick them but you aren't supposed to lick them because of the digestive stuff in saliva.

weird problem.

Gradually tone down your usage. There should be no need for you to use it more than four times a day.
Your lips are probably becoming dependent on it and have lost their natural ability to keep themselves moisturized. Not a good thing.

I think they can regain it. I was hooked on chapstick for a good month. I just hated having to pull out the stick, even though my lips just *felt* dry, even though they weren't really in need of chapstick.

yes, unfortunatly. i started using it when i was on Accutane, and i haven't broken the habit yet :disgust:

nope, not me!

but, yeah, i find it weird also because i know a few who always have a chap stick in their pocket everytime. do you guys think its another form of addiction?😉

it's called negative feedback. you start using something so much that your body thinks that it's ok to lay off, so your lips stopped moisturizing themselves.

I'd recommend drinking a lot of water while you cut back on the chapstick.

Lip moisturizers are evil. Your lips become accustomed to not having to produce their own oils to protect themselves. I have lived through just about every type of climate you can imagine without using them. The trick is to never, NEVER, NEVER lick your lips. Under the worst of circumstances, if your lips feel like they are going to crack and bleed, don't smile or do anything to stretch the skin. Your lips will recover on their own.

I forgot to include my advice. Right now i'm guessing that you're saturating your lips with the chap stick. Don't do that anymore. Put on a very thin layer, and keep thinning the layers as the days go by. That's how i got myself off of this addiction. Twice. 😛

Yes, I'm addicted, but only need it once or twice a day. I forgot it the other day and was gone all day, came home after jsut 14 hours and my lips were horribly chapped, all the old skin peeled off within the next 3 days....

I drink water constantly. I'm on my third glass since I got home an hour and a half ago.

Thumper uses the stuff all the time, I think she's addicted to it...

So, are there Chap-stick's Anon meetings? 😉

That being said, she doesn't lipstick, so I guess this is a substitue...

Tastes better too! 😀

They have really good chapstick at the Cracker Barrel. It's call Beeswax or somehting like that. Good stuff!

I used to use it as much as you, now I only use it after brushing my teeth or taking a shower.

same here, except i used to be addicted not to chapstick but this rare knock-off type brand that was almost impossible to find...chapstick used to always flare up my lips (i thought it was a mental thing)...i slowly got off my dependency of it and now use regular clear petroleum occasionally...agreed tho its a nasty addiction especially when u lose your chapstick, the results are horrible...

blistex md, beats everything out there. and yes, im an addict.

blistex. yeea. tastes good too. i cant find the blue one anymore. they only sell that green herbal one that tastes like candy. it's alright but i liked the other one.

speaking of chapstick, do you guys have a tendency to lose them? i think i've only finished one stick of chapstick my entire life. the rest of them i lost somehow ...

I think I was a little kid the last time I ever tried on chap stick. In the winter when the air is dry as hell, I put on carmex or vasoline on my lips if they are chapped. My sister and her boyfriend are addicted to chap stick and always wondered what the hell was wrong with them. Now I know that they are not the only ones.
