Not much to say, just bonus+Christmas deals+love of jackets = too many new jackets on the way. Even if I give away some of my old ones I'm going to have a fleece, softshell, or WP shell for every occasion... and then some.

Anyone else suffer from this? In other areas I'm faily conservative (savings rate of ~15% right now) but dang it, I must be sick.

Jackets aren't technical gear where I come from, they're clothing.

Technical gear is like.. oscilloscopes and other test equipment, etc.

It doesn't get cold enough here to warrant buying a lot of jackets let alone more then one plus I didn't know that jackets were quite technical.

Depends on what "technical" means but I get your drift. In this case it's things like better shoes, smarter designed outerwear, or that perfect backpack for an overnighter that get me.

In most other areas I don't get easily tempted by material things but these jackets are killing me.

I got a thing about Vibram.

I just got a pair of Merrels to replace my long dead Nike's as my daily shoes and I agree, the vibram soles are very nice. It's unkown how long they will last for me but my initial impressions are good.

Well I guess it's better than buying flashlights.

Lol, my uncle is into that. I have more flashlights than I need but most are cheap ones from Hong Kong that I hide around the house in case of a power failure. My only nice one is a $60 200 lumen light that hooks to the right rails on my airsoft SR-10 and operates via a pressure switch on the front grip. It's a great tool for night games as it blinds anyone who your aiming at :D

I have about £100 worth of x-socks :p and a few other high spec sock brands.

I had some people moan about it a few months back...it's like you don't get the quality as you clearly don't train enough in a week to notice. £10-£13 for a pair of socks over the lifetime of a sock is nothing compared to the amount of use I get out of them. Very comfy.

I had to look those up as I had never heard of X-socks... dang, they are pretty freaking pricey. I thought the few ~$10 pairs of smartwool socks where expensive but man, these are like 4 times that. Not that I would say anything against you for having those, especially if you get good use out of them.

At least you can say it's something you wear every day. I live in Seattle and while I go up in the mountains alot the normal climate is pretty mild so owning 10+ technical jackets is somewhat overboard.

It's about value for money. If I use something I'll tend to spend more on it or save up and spend on it. If I don't I won't. I train a lot and like to have nice socks to wear. I have a lot of underwear also. Probably near a months worth :p

I don't mind spending more for quality as they are really comfy and in the grand scheme of things they aren't £20-£25 per sock. I see no value in getting say an expensive exhaust for my car more sound and slightly more power. I'd rather spend the £££ on track days.

I would balk about spending £100+ on jeans but £50-70 is okay with me if I really like the pair and the fit is very good.

I would be if I had the money. My dad was a jacket fiend. But we lived in Minnesota and when you have 5 seasons it makes sense to keep a variety of clothes on hand.
But I also got a jacket that makes me very happy so I havent felt the need to buy anything for a while.
The 5.11 tactical jacket from Brigade Quartermasters.

This is it.
http://www.511tactical.com/browse/H...ket/D/30100/P/1:100:10000:10300:10302/I/48007
Brigade doenst stock it anymore. Shame because I got it there for 99.99.

Anyway, it has 4 mini internal pockets. 2 huge internal pockets. 4 outside pockets, 2 of which zip up. And firm inserts for covering a concealed weapon. No hood or liner, its a relatively light jacket. Shame because now that its snowing and cold in Virginia, I cant really wear it. Even with long underwear and a good hat, I would still be cold. But its great throughout the summer and fall.

Maybe I'll get one of the tactical parkas. When I have free cash. Which probably wont be until the middle of summer.

I've had good luck with Merrel and New Balance Vibram hikers. Vibram is also showing up in scandals too. I always use heel strikes in all by shoes. greatly improves comfort and performance. Now if they would only make vibram bicycle tires.

I think I've bought way too many jackets as of late due to the bing cash back deals. I now have like 5 Arc'Teryx jackets lined up in preparation of the cold winter ahead plus a few snowboarding trips. I couldn't help myself as I were getting them at like 60-70% off MSRP. I've been waiting to get them at discounts since I refuse to wear North Face on the grounds that every where I go, I see people sporting them. :p

YES! Completely. I get anxious waiting for opportunities to use them. What? Night hike? Sure. Oh it's raining? Awesome.

people give me jackets all the time. i bought a kick ass black leather moto jacket a long time ago, weighs about 30lbs. very warm for winter riding. my mom gave me a brown one identical to it, my dad gave me a handmade brown leather bomber that was made the year i was born. ex FiL gave me a western style leather jacket with ostrich shoulders. unless im out riding, its too damn warm to wear any of them so i wear a padded flannel most of the time. the two of those i have were given to me by family as well. hell, even the service jacket i wear for work was given to me by the company. i have a ton of jackets, but have only actually purchased one.

none of my jackets are very technical.

I have a hooded sweatshirt with a full zipper that I use when it's like 20-45 outside, and then a full jacket that I use for below 20 degrees.

I have another jacket or two that are a bunch of years old, but never wear them as they do not fit my fatness any more. I should probably get rid of them, but meh, eventually I might lose weight, and it would suck to have to buy all new clothes again!

Anyhow, I know this was mentioned before, but how is a jacket "technical" gear??

This winter, I may get myself a new jacket for sledding, but still don't have sleds yet, so not worryin about the jacket.
