I used to pray and do QT as a Christian. It brought my so much relief and comfort.

I've abandoned my faith as an agnostic now. I look back and realize it was just a self-induced comfort in delusion.

Meditation is an exacting discipline, and stilling your "monkey mind" an elusive, if an exemplary goal.

Once you start to still your mind, to empty it; it reacts like a woman (or ATOT poster) scorned. It simply WON'T stopping babbling and racing from point to point to point.

Google says it stands for Quiet Time. Lol, leave it to mainstream whitebreadism to call their discount version of a two millenia older practice something that sounds more like a kindergarten punishment.

The only meditation I do is on the Word of God (which relieves ALL of my mental stress). I also stretch daily, incorporating some tai chi elements, which helps relieve physical stress for me. I don't think philosophical meditation is a good thing (I think it's a waste of time), but self-examination and setting goals in a peaceful atmosphere can be.

It helps me relax. I don't do it very often, but when I do my heart rate and blood pressure drop noticeably and I am capable of making more level headed decisions. I have a few different techniques I use, nothing I have read or been taught, just methods I have discovered to help me step back and relax.

That is so true...to a point. I simply read a portion of the bible and think about how it applies to my life. No need for trances.

I believe prayer is more for personal comfort. While I believe god can be active, i think it is mostly in the case of few and far between miracles.

I used to mountain hike quite a bit.

.......reach the top in 2 hours of grueling pain and you feel successful in a place so peaceful.

half of the time i just go down the local massage place for "stress relief and relaxation."
