Anyone do business with Ingram Micro?

I just wanted to know a couple of things about setting up a new account with them, particularly, whether they accept everyone who applies, or if they may decline if the applicant is a startup firm with no previous trade experience? I noticed that the account application asks for references, so i figured i'd check.

No its not.

What are you buying?

I belive they do check to see if you have a FEIN or EIN.

They use trade refrences and/or DUNS to rate your credit.

I'm obviously buying computer parts, but i'm in Canada, so i don't have the slightest idea of what FEIN/EIN/DUNS are. Either way, i don't want their credit, i will pay CC/COD.

FEIN/EIN are your reg. numbers with the U.S. Government.

DUNS is to rate your credit.

I dont think they do COD. I may be mistaken.

I was gonna sign up with them but for the volume I do, it isn't worth it and many times newegg's prices are cheaper than their "discounted" prices. Unfortunately newegg does not ship to Canada.

Bingo. IM and TD have some of the highest prices I've ever seen in my life.

AND they have the gall to charge you for applying, TD (TechData) is $100.00, and I think Ingram is $200.00.

Unless you're buying 2+ million/yr from them, their prices suck.

You heard from 3 people in the industry. National Dist's SUCK as far as pricing goes.

It;s much better pricing than what you would get from a group like Eprom, or Peripheral Express...

Buying from IM is much easier for me, as I can get almost everything I need from one place... Of course, if another company is running a product cheaper, then I'll buy from there, particulalrly if they're liquidating... You never want to lock yourself into one supplier.. particularly with PC parts..

I opened an account with Ingram Micro (and Tech Data, Merisel, SuperCom, SED, plus a few others) with nothing more than:

- State sales tax ID # (sales tax exempt)
- DBA (Doing Business As)
- Small Business Checking Account with local bank ($12/mth fee)

No prior trade experience, no credit rating, pre-paid terms.

i used to do business with IM but i had a falling out with our account rep. we still do the occasional purchase from TD for the odd item. not much tho, it's cheaper to get it local and no shipping charges (and handling for TD).
