Last year I trained for and ran the Houston Marathon (that was in mid-Jan). I was also involved in Hillel (the Jewish student organization), and in starting a fraternity. I was a member of the Reed Rowdies (basketball fan club at A&M, we have the coolest T-shirts, hehe). Last spring I also joined the Student Engineer's Council, although I'm considering quitting that now. This semester I'll be much more involved with the fraternity (Sigma Alpha Mu) I'm the treasurer - this rush week we went from 8 to 16 guys, so much more work is going to be involved..

oh yeah, 14 hours of engineering each semester...

I didn't do much myself.. a little intramural sports in the beginning.

my daughter is sophomore.. last year she did newspaper for a bit, then switched to radio once she finished training and got a show, was on the ultimate frisbee team but that didn't last all that long, broke her foot in a pick-up game, and she's in a couple honors organizations, was filming/producing a documentary on the making of a movie, until the people making the movie lost interest.. and sorta unofficial member of FASA (filipino-american student organization.. she accompanies her boyfriend). this year she's still in the honors things, still doing radio (has specialty show now, and much better time slot!), and she's trying to form an amateur theater group and produce a musical.. meeting with some frustrations, don't know whether that'll work out or not (funding issues, mainly).

I was in a fraternity, and it was great. However, that REALLY varies by school. I was at a small liberal arts college so our fraternity was very close-knit. We partied, yes, but we also did a lot of community service and our house GPA was above the all-men's average.
Being in the fraternity kept me busy with IM sports, social functions, house offices, etc.

This is NOT the case at many larger schools.
